Australia vs India 2020: Team India in revenge mode as we look at the stats preview and predicted playing 11 for the first T20I.
The ODI series saw Team India go down 1-2 to a highly competent Australian side. Team India’s traditional approach in the first two ODIs didn’t work out well, and in the third ODI, a similar approach was followed before the out-of-the-box knocks by Hardik and Jadeja helped India score a competent defendable total.
The T20s, however, is going to be a different ball game. Hence, the ODI series’ result would not have an implication on the T20I series. Team India have historically had an upper hand over Australia in T20Is winning 11 out of 20 games, and should have an upper hand in the upcoming series too.
With the first T20I scheduled tomorrow, let’s look at the stats preview and Predicted Playing 11 for both the teams.

Team India’s T20I squad for the Tour of Australia:
Virat Kohli (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul (VC &WK), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami, Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar, and T Natarajan.
Openers: KL Rahul (VC & WK) & Shikhar Dhawan
KL Rahul, who donned the middle-order duties in the ODI series should replace Shubman Gill as the first-choice opener in the first T20I. Partnering him can be a toss-up between Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan. However, given Dhawan’s successful IPL, he should continue as Team’s second opener.
Middle-order: Virat Kohli (C), Shreyas Iyer & Manish Pandey
With KL Rahul opening the batting, the number 5 position should see Manish Pandey playing that role as seen in the last series. However, given Hardik’s recent batting form, Team can also play him at 5 followed by two all-rounders. However, the first T20I should see VK at 3, Iyer at 4, and Pandey at 5.
All-rounders: Hardik Pandya & Ravindra Jadeja
Hardik Pandya ain’t exactly an all-rounder at the moment given he isn’t bowling due to injury concern, even though he rolled his arm for a few overs in the ODI series. He should definitely start as favourite for number 6. The second all-rounder, however, should see Jadeja or Sundar playing the role. While Sundar could be a good option for his bowling capabilities, Jaddu might just be preferred for the all-round duties.
Bowlers: T Natarajan, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah & Yuzvendra Chahal.
After a successful debut in the ODI series, T Natarajan should definitely continue as the pacer in the T20I squad. While Deepak Chahar Isn’t a bad option as the third pacer, the first T20I should see Mohammed Shami’s experience getting preferred ahead of him. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal should fill the rest of the bowling slots.
