THE ROHIT SHARMA SHOW:
Opening for the first time in Test Cricket, Rohit Sharma set the Cricketing world on fire by scoring twin centuries, and in-process breaking numerous records.
June, 2013 was the golden moment in Rohit Sharma’s career when he started opening regularly in limited-overs cricket; a decision MS Dhoni would be remembered for.
Six years hence in 2019, this time it is Virat Kohli, who made another conscious decision of opening Rohit Sharma in Test Cricket too; a thought which was oblivious even to MS Dhoni and the Team Management.
Many people had reservations on Rohit Sharma’s technique to succeed in the longest format of the game. While he hasn’t quite proven completely as he is yet to play in SENA countries, he has taken giant steps to succeed as an opener by smashing twin centuries in only his first match as an opener.
Opening for the first time, there were few nervy moments for Rohit Sharma in the initial few overs, but except for those, he looked rock-solid, and took calculative risks to score aggressively.
In the first innings, Rohit made a monumental 176(244) with 6 gigantic sixes. In the second innings when the situation demanded swift runs, Rohit Sharma dominated the bowling completely as he smashed another scintillating 127(149) with 7 sixes.
Overall, Rohit Sharma hit 13 sixes in this match, which is most by any player in Test Cricket, breaking Wasim Akram’s record of 12 sixes, which he hit in 1996.
