IPL 2020 Auction: 5 Talented Indian players who could fetch big

IPL 2020 Auction: Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the most promising young Indian players to watch out for.

As all the eight franchises announced their retained list of players on November 15th, the countdown for IPL 2020 Auction, scheduled to take place on December 19 at Kolkata has already begun.

A total of 127 players were retained ahead of the auction including 35 overseas cricketers. This means, apart from the 29 overseas players, 44 slots would be up for grabs for the Indian players. While the teams have released many experienced Indian players, IPL 2020 Auction would see teams investing more in the fresh blood in view of their long term strategy.

Over the last year, many talented cricketers have cropped up in domestic cricket with their scintillating performances. Surprisingly, most of these youngsters are without any contract at the moment. Hence, they would command fierce competition among the franchises to procure the best talent in the auction.

After reviewing the pool of players that have made a mark in Domestic Cricket last year, here is the list of top 5 Talented Indian players, who could fetch big money at the IPL 2020 Auction.

#5 Virat Singh – Jharkhand

Virat Singh is slowly making a name for himself as a reliable middle-order batsman in the domestic circuit. His performances in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the recently concluded Deodhar Trophy are a proof of the same.

Often plying his trade at No.3 in the batting line-up, Virat possesses the innate ability to stitch partnerships and construct an innings. Like his name, the left-handed batsman, Virat is a terrific asset during the chase.

Virat can be a very useful backup to the batting line-up for many franchises. Hence, for a competition that demands consistency in all the 14 games, a quality batsman in the reserves could go a long way in improving your campaign.

Teams that could target Virat Singh:

Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Kings XI Punjab.

#4 Ishan Porel – West Bengal

A part of the fast-bowling trio that dominated the U19 World Cup a few years ago, Ishan Porel is all set to make an impression at the upcoming season of IPL.

A right-hand bowler with a tall frame, Ishan Porel can be a dangerous bowler on surfaces with a green topping. Although not as quick as his U19 counterparts, Nagarkoti and Mavi, Ishan relies on movement off the ball to pick his wickets.

Ishan’s standout performance in the final of the 2019 Deodhar Trophy, where he recorded the figures of 5/43 triggered talks of him representing the country in the future.

IPL demands a bowling unit that can offer variety and remain injury-free at the same time. Ishan Porel can be a valuable inclusion for teams that are looking to forge such a bowling line-up for the upcoming season.

Teams that could target Ishan Porel:

Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Kings XI Punjab.

#3 Vishnu Vinod – Kerala

Vishnu Vinod’s first stint in the IPL happened when he was picked as a replacement by RCB for the injured KL Rahul in 2017. He did impress with a few cameos, but could not convince the franchise to retain him for further seasons. Since then, the Kerala wicket-keeper batsman has not played in the IPL.

In Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019, Vishnu scored 508 runs from 8 games at an impressive strike-rate. Opening the batting, Vishnu produced quick starts consistently, and helped his side win a few games. In fact, the player recorded the highest number of sixes scored in the competition.

Domestic wicket-keeper batsmen are an asset in a competition like IPL. Apart from his big hitting skills, Vishnu Vinod can also complement this attribute with his wicket-keeping abilities. Hence, this could help Vishnu garner a good bid at the auction.

Teams that could target Vishnu Vinod:

Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals.

#2 Yashasvi Jaiswal – Mumbai

After impressing at Mumbai junior-level cricket, the 17-year-old, Yashasvi Jaiswal made a mark in the India U19 Tour of Sri Lanka. However, the youngster’s catapult to stardom was based entirely on his performance in the 2019 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Yashavi scored a humongous 564 runs at an average of 112.80 in just the six games he played in the competition. In this tournament, he also became the first teenager to score a double-century in the List A format. The UP-born Cricketer carried his good form in the Deodhar Trophy.

With the age factor and the run of good knocks behind him, there would be many franchises, who would want to buy Yashasvi Jaiswal, and groom this young talent as their bet for the future.

Teams that could target Yashasvi Jaiswal:

Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Kolkata Knight Riders.

#1 Baba Aparajith – Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu all-rounder, Baba Aparajith has played for Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiants in the past. However, he does not have even one game to his credit in the IPL. That said, this could change in the upcoming edition of the competition.

Aparajith’s purple patch started with the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019. The 25-year-old scored 598 runs from 12 games in the competition. His tally included six fifties and one half-century. In this tournament, the former India U19 player also picked up 11 wickets with his wily off-spin bowling. He followed up this performance with a good show in the Deodhar Trophy. He emerged as the highest run-getter, scoring 167 runs from 3 innings.

For teams wanting a reliable domestic middle-order batsman, Baba Aparajith is a very good option. The youngster can easily slot into the No.3 or the No.4 position in the batting line-up. His ability to both, construct the innings and take on the bowlers at will is his most impressive quality.

Additionally, Baba Aparajith is a useful right-hand off-spinner, who can trouble the batsmen on pitches favoring the spinners. Hence, his all-round skills make him an attractive proposition for many IPL franchises.

Teams that could target Baba Aparajith:

Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
