Key Uncapped players to watch out for in IPL 2019
Shreyas Gopal and Shivam Dube among the top uncapped players to watch out for in IPL 2019.
It is that time of the year again. The excitement is at its peak, the mood all over India is energetic, the office discussions are surrounded by Cricket and even the Pados waala, ‘Sharma Ji ka beta’ is concerned if the star-studded, RCB will finally win this year.
Yes, you guessed it right! It is time for the festival of cricket, the Indian Premier League.
Every year we see so many young talents making a mark in the IPL, and then going to play for the national side. The KulCha Jodi, Kuldeep Yadav & Yuzvendra Chahal, Mumbai Indians’ mystery spinner, Mayank Markhande, RCB’s bowling allrounder, Washington Sundar are some of the IPL products.
This year too, we have many uncapped players who have the potential to surprise everyone with their performance. But, which are some of the key uncapped players to watch out for in IPL 2019? Let’s find out.
VARUN CHAKRAVARTHY (KXIP):
The mystery spinner from Tamil Nadu, Varun Chakravarthy was the highest paid uncapped player in the IPL 2019 auction as he got sold for a whopping 8.4 Cr. So, why did this ‘Not so known’ player get such a hefty amount?
The reason for that is his performance in Tamil Nadu Premier League, 2018. He took a total of 9 wickets from 10 innings at an unbelievable economy rate of 4.7 with a dot ball percentage of 52.08.
An oozing talent with at least 7 bowling variations, Varun Chakravarthy would be one of the key players to watch out for in IPL 2019.
IPL 2019 Expectations:
A mystery spinner is always an asset, and Varun would add a lot of value to the already strong spin bowling department of KXIP.
SHIVAM DUBE (RCB):
Shivam Dube, the hard-hitting all-rounder from Mumbai was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a good amount of 5 Cr.
He has been a valuable all-rounder for Mumbai in the domestic tournaments. In first-class matches, he has scored 710 runs at an average of 50.71 and has also taken 28 wickets at an average of 22.57.
In T20 tournaments, he has scored, 202 runs at a strike rate of 147.44 and has also taken 14 wickets at an average of 23.
Expected Role in RCB:
Shivam Dube is a welcome addition to the below par lower-order of the RCB. He is going to be a sure short starter in the playing XI, and would be expected to play either at 5 or 6.
RAHUL TEWATIA (DC):
Rahul Tewatia impressed everyone in the limited opportunities he got for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2018. In IPL 2018, he took a total of 6 wickets from 8 innings at an economy rate of 7.86. He also scored 50 runs down the order.
Tewatia is a quality spinner and a useful attacking batsman down the order. Considering the lack of quality all-rounders in the Delhi Capitals side, Tewatia can bring in a lot of value to the side.
Expectations from IPL 2019:
Rahul Tewatia may not get to play all the matches considering their already strong spin-bowling department, but given a chance, he can certainly play as a lead spinner and a decent lower-order batsman.
SHREYAS GOPAL (RR):
Shreyas Gopal plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. He did fairly well for the Rajasthan Royals last season taking 11 wickets from 11 innings at an economy rate of 7.61.
Shreyas Gopal has also been in superb form in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Tournament too where he took a total of 13 wickets from 8 innings at an average of 9.3 and an economy rate of 5.85.
IPL 2019 Expectations:
Shreyas Gopal would once again have the responsibility of leading the spin-bowling attack for the Rajasthan Royals.
RINKU SINGH (KKR):
Rinku Singh plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. Known for his hard-hitting capabilities, he has joined a perfect squad that has the likes of Lynn, Narine, Russel, Brathwaite, etc.
Rinku Singh has been in prime touch too in the domestic tournaments. In the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Trophy, he scored a total of 208 runs at a strike rate of 180.86.
Expected Role in KKR:
Rinku Singh can be a fantastic lower-order finisher batsman for the Knight Riders.
Apart from the above-mentioned ones, the other uncapped players, who may not get that many chances, but have a lot of potential are Devdutt Padikkal (RCB), Prabhsimran Singh (KXIP), Prayas Barman (RCB) and Rahul Chahar (MI).

- Deepak Hooda (SRH)
- Ishan Kishan (MI)
- Krishnappa Gowtham (RR)
- Nitish Rana (KKR)
- Prasidh Krishna (KKR)
- Rahul Tripathi (RR)
- Suryakumar Yadav (MI)
