T20 WC 2020: 3 Indian Players whose selection depends on IPL 2020

Suryakumar Yadav and MS Dhoni will have a real good chance to be in India’s World T20 2020 squad if they do well in IPL 2020.

In an ICC trophyless barren period right now, Virat Kohli’s men would be keen to make a statement in the shortest format of the game in October, when they play the World T20 in Australia for the first time under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.

Team India have already begun their preparations for the showpiece event. The mathematics of team permutations & combinations are currently in place, but with the IPL just before the World Cup, there are a few more factors and variables which will find its way to the equation.

While 8-10 players select themselves, the remaining slots are still up for grabs in the Indian team, and hence, the forthcoming IPL would be significant for few players. On that note, here is a list of 3 players who can make a case for themselves if they have a good IPL 2020.

#3: Suryakumar Yadav

Yes, India’s middle-order is almost set with the likes of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, and Rishabh Pant in the fray. However, Team India still lack a reliable middle-order finisher alongside Hardik Pandya.

Here is where the in-form batsman Suryakumar Yadav could sneak into the Indian Team. He is in form, and if he can produce an outstanding IPL playing for Mumbai Indians, he can place himself in a healthy situation ahead of World T20.

Unlike KL, Manish & Iyer, SKY offers that ‘X-Factor’, which can be crucial in big tournaments, especially in the T20s. He can win you games from unlikely situations, and if he has a wonderful IPL with Mumbai Indians, he would be on the selectors’ mind.

#2: Krunal Pandya

Another cricketer from Mumbai Indians, Krunal Pandya will have to beat Ravindra Jadeja to make it to the World T20 squad. Jaddu can be inconsistent with the bat at times, and hence, if Pandya can be on his toes, he will have a reason to be confident until the final World T20 squad gets announced.

Moreover, Pandya has to offer something extra if he needs to play in World T20. While it is difficult to compete in the fielding aspect, if Krunal can prove himself with the bat, the chances for him will go higher. Of course, he will have to remain consistent with the ball too.

#1: MS Dhoni

Be it Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, or Sanju Samson, Team India’s wicket-keeping conundrum is a never-ending process. While Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson have been in the mix, KL Rahul is the latest entrant to the party. However, if MS has a successful IPL, he will go above all of them to stand behind the stumps for India at World T20.

There is absolutely no doubt about Dhoni’s glovework, which seems to be the crux for Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul. But, it is his batting that has looked rusty over the last few years. If the CSK-skipper can beat this, he will be a crucial addition to the Indian Team. His experience is priceless, especially with relatively newer batters around him.

Apart from these, there are other players like Shivam Dube, Manish Pandey, Sanju Samson, and Washington Sundar, for whom the performance in the IPL would play a significant role in their selection for the World T20 in Australia.
