World Cup 2019, Australia vs South Africa: South Africa produced their best performance of the series as they end their campaign on a winning note, and stop Australia from topping the table.
A slightly late in the tournament, but South Africa would be mighty pleased with the win because it has been a season of disappointments and bad luck for them.
After winning the crucial toss, South Africa ignored all their previous performance, and produced a blazing start. The openers added 79 for the first wicket in just 11.3 overs.
Not considering it as a fluke, South Africa added another 151 runs partnership for the third wicket, thus taking their score to 265-3 at the end of 43 overs.
Faf du Plessis meanwhile became the first South African to score a century in World Cup 2019; thus ending their miserable batting run in the series.
Van der Dussen then gave a finishing touch to the innings as he scored a fabulous 95(97) to take South Africa to 325-6 at the end of 50 overs.
Chasing 326 was always going to be tough no matter it were the mighty Aussies chasing it. But the fight which Australia gave proved why they are the most dangerous sides in the world when it comes to the ICC tournaments.
After being 119-5, technically with Usman Khawaja injured at the end of 24 overs, almost everyone would have lost the hope, but the man in form, David Warner, and Australia’s new finisher, Alex Carey kept Australia in the hunt.
The duo added 108 for the fifth wicket as David Warner scored his third century of the series. However, the golden arm of Dwaine Pretorius got rid of the dangerous Warner with Australia needing another 98 runs from 65 balls.
Kagiso Rabada, who has had a horrible tournament finally showed why he is one of the best in the World. The lad gave just 14 runs combined and took 2 wickets in the 47th and 49th over to help South Africa win the match by 10 runs.
Alex Carey, who has given himself a new role of a finisher scored 85(69), but unfortunately couldn’t see his side through.
