NEW ZEALAND VS SRI LANKA SCORECARD:

New Zealand: 137-0 in 16.1 overs

Martin Guptill: 73*(51) | Colin Munro: 58*(47)

Sri Lanka: 136-10 in 29.2 overs

Player of the match: Lockie Ferguson

New Zealand, who finished as the runners-up of World Cup 2015 started their campaign on a fantastic note.

On a green pitch and slightly overcast conditions, New Zealand decided to bowl first. Sri Lanka, just like their Asian counterpart, Pakistan played some really poor Cricket. Except for their captain, Dimuth Karunaratne, no other batsman looked like settling himself in.

Matt Henry, who came in for injured Tim Southee bowled in perfect channels as his swinging deliveries were too hot for Sri Lankan batsmen to handle.

In the end, Sri Lanka were bundled out for a humiliating score of 136; their third-lowest total in World Cups.

Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson took 3 wickets each while Trent Boult took 1 wicket.

In reply, New Zealand showed no mercy as Martin Guptill and Colin Munro crushed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets with 203 balls to spare. Martin Guptill made a fantastic 73(51) with 8 fours and 2 sixes, while Colin Munro too made a superb 58(47) with 6 fours and 1 six in their opening match of World Cup 2019.

Matt Henry was awarded the player of the match for his fierce spell of 7-0-27-3.
