Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of ICC World Cup 2019 due to a fractured thumb injury.
After Rishabh Pant was flown-in to London, there were speculations that injured Shikhar Dhawan might not be able to recover, and Pant would finally be named as the replacement.
The initial assessment had confirmed that Shikhar Dhawan would need at least 2-3 weeks to recover from his fractured thumb injury. However, after going through a week’s treatment, it has finally confirmed that he would not be able to recover.
Shikhar Dhawan has been India’s best batsman at ICC tournaments, and his absence would certainly affect Team’s combinations. While KL Rahul is a like for like replacement, his contribution as an opener isn’t up to Dhawan’s level.
With KL Rahul opening the innings, either of Vijay Shankar, Rishabh Pant or Dinesh Karthik would play in the middle-order.
Meanwhile, It is a dream come true for Rishabh Pant. He was very much disappointed after missing out on the flight to England, but would be very happy as he finally gets to represent India at the World Cup at the age of 21.
We are sure he wouldn’t have liked to replace an invaluable Dhawan, but since it has happened, we wish Rishabh Pant a super-duper success.
Team India is currently unbeaten with 3 wins and 1 washout. We hope Team India remains unbeaten throughout the tournament.
