World Cup 2019: Team India continue their dominant run over Pakistan as they make it 7-0 against them at World Cups.
Batting first, the new opening pair of Team India, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul gave India a solid start. The duo added 136 for the first wicket as they managed a century run stand in only their first ODI as openers together.
Even after KL Rahul’s dismissal, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma got going as they added another 98 for the second wicket-taking India’s tally to 234-1 in 38 overs.
Rohit Sharma, however, got out on 140(113) as he looked to clear the short fine leg. Disappointment looked all over his face as a fourth 200 was very much on the cards for him.
Anyway, courtesy to Virat’s 77(65), a small cameo of 26(19) by Hardik and a decent contribution down the order by Kedar and Shankar, Team India added another 102 in the last 12 overs to reach a competitive 336 in 50 overs.
Mohammad Amir was once again the leading bowler for Pakistan as he bowled a brilliant spell of 3-47.
Chasing the mammoth 337, Pakistan’s chances only depended on a solid start and big partnerships. Pakistan, however, had a poor start as Imam-ul-Haq lost his wicket to the World Cup debutant, Vijay Shankar.
After losing Imam early on, Pakistan had a really good partnership between Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam, which looked slightly threatening to India. However, with the ball spinning, Kuldeep bowled a snotter to get rid of Babar Azam, and then a looper to get rid of Fakhar Azam.
With both set batsman sent home, Pakistan’s chances looked bleak, and it turned out to be the same as Pakistan could only manage 212 in their 40 overs chasing a revised D/L target of 302.
Kuldeep, Shankar, and Hardik took wickets each as India won the match by a mammoth 89 runs. Virat Kohli was very impressive with his bowling changes considering India lost Bhuvi’s services early on in the innings.
WHAT WENT WRONG FOR PAKISTAN?
- Except for Mohammad Amir, all the other pacers looked mediocre against the Indian batsmen.
- Pakistan’s middle-order failed to capitalize on a good start provided by their top-order.
- Pakistan winning the toss, and choosing to field first on a pitch that looked a belter for runs.
- Virat Kohli walking off to a caught behind when the snickometer showed he didn’t knick it.
- Kuldeep’s amazing snotter that rattled Babar Azam’s stumps in the 24th over.
- Hardik Pandya’s 2 wickets in the 27th over that changed the equation of the game.
