If the good training session is any indicator for us, we should finally see our best opening pair, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma playing against our favorite opponent, Pakistan. This means Ishan Kishan, who had a decent outing against Afghanistan will have to sit out this game. 

Apart from this change, the second biggest question shall be to choose one between Ravichandran Ashwin and Shardul Thakur. Well, the answer to this completely depends on the pitch we get for the match. However, if history has anything to see, Ahmedabad has usually given a sporty pitch that favors pace bowling. 

So, expect India to stick with Shardul Thakur for this match as an additional pace option for the middle overs. Having said that, Pakistan have three lefties in their top 7. So, to tackle those, don’t be surprised if India play Ashwin ahead of Shardul. But for now, Shardul is our first choice. 

From individual players’ standpoint, India would need Mohammed Siraj back in form. The pacer has been all over when it comes to bowling length. But with Ahmedabad assisting pace, Siraj may finally find his lost rhythm. Overall, India would want to continue the momentum by making three in a row.

While Fakhar Zaman has been excellent against India, Pakistan may stick to Abdulla after his match-winning heroics against Sri Lanka. However, Imam’s form is a concern too. So, Pakistan may think of playing Fakhar in place of Imam as a wildcard move. 

Other than this, the other question for Pakistan shall be to continue playing Mohammad Nawaz or bring in an extra pacer in the form of Mohammad Wasim Jr. Well, similar to the Ashwin vs Shardul debate, this shall depend on the pitch situation. But given Pakistan has persisted with Nawaz as the second spinner, expect them to continue doing this.
