World Cup 2023: India vs New Zealand Best Predicted Playing 11

Hardik Pandya ruled out as we look at India vs New Zealand confirmed playing 11 for ODI Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2023.

It’s match number 20 of the ICC CWC 2023, and we are in for the biggest battle of the tournament yet. It’s the clash of the table toppers as India take on New Zealand at the most beautiful stadium in the world of Dharamsala. Both teams are running high on confidence with 4 wins a piece from 4 matches, but one of them will lose their winning streak.

However, more than the match, the Nostalgia of 2019 will be on the minds of both teams. Team India, who couldn’t chase a modest 240 in 50 overs in the Semi-final of 2019 would be looking for redemption. Whereas New Zealand would want to continue their winning momentum by playing in their most favorable swinging conditions of Dharamsala.

Historically, New Zealand have had an upper hand over India in the ODI World Cup history. While New Zealand have won 5 times, India have won only 3 times with 1 match in 2019 being a wash-out. India and New Zealand have twice faced each other in the World Cup in India, and on both occasions, India won comfortably.

While teams prepare for the match, we also have bad news in terms of playing 11. BCCI and New Zealand Cricket Board have officially confirmed that neither Hardik Pandya nor Kane Williamson will feature in this clash. Having said that, let’s look at the confirmed best playing 11 for India vs New Zealand clash at ODI CWC 2023.

Match Details:

All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin & Ravindra Jadeja

Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj & Shardul Thakur

Team India’s Predicted Playing 11

It’s officially confirmed that Hardik Pandya won’t feature in the India vs New Zealand at Dharamsala. Hardik suffered an injury on his left ankle while fielding off his own bowling during the match vs Bangladesh. He is currently advised to take rest, and is now under the supervision of the BCCI.

With Hardik Pandya not playing, India’s playing 11 combination takes a big hit. Hardik and Jadeja are Team India’s key players who not only provide great batting strength but also provide 16-20 overs in every match. But if one of these two miss, India don’t have a similar third all-rounder to replace them.

Without Hardik, India will have to go back to playing only 5 bowlers. Realistically, India will have to play three pacers in Dharamsala. So, they will either have to play one of Shardul or Shami as the third pacer. While Shardul does bring good batting depth, he ain’t a bowler that India can rely on to bowl all 10 overs.

So, with a horse-for-course approach, expect India to bring in Mohammed Shami for Shardul Thakur to strengthen the bowling. Whereas as a replacement for Hardik, expect India to bring in the finisher Suryakumar Yadav, who shall be playing his first ODI World Cup match. But as highlighted above, India can only go in with 5 bowling options without Hardik.

Other than this, India does have the option to play both, Ashwin and Shardul. But that means, India will lack batting depth, and will have to rely on the batting of Sardul and Ashwin at 7 and 8 respectively. However, this move looks unlikely, and India should stick to playing 6 pure batters, 1 all-rounder, and 4 pure bowlers.

Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah & Mohammed Siraj.

ODI World Cup 2023 – Official Squad List for New Zealand:

All-rounders: Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Jimmy Neesham, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner & Rachin Ravindra

Bowlers: Ish Sodhi, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Tim Southee & Trent Boult

New Zealand’s Predicted Playing 11

Coming to New Zealand’s playing 11, they shall be without Kane Williamson, who is more or less ruled out of the ICC CWC 2023. In Kane’s absence, expect New Zealand to play the same playing 11 that they did against Afghanistan in the last match. The focus for New Zealand will once again be their All-rounders, and there are 4 in the side.

ODI World Cup 2023 – India vs New Zealand Predicted Playing 11 for NZ:

Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Tom Latham (c&wk), Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson & Trent Boult

Overall, the focus will be on Team India’s top-order vs Trent Boult and Matt Henry. India would definitely not want a similar situation of 5/3 as they were in the ODI CWC 2019. There’s no doubt that Dharamsala offers swinging conditions. So, if the Indian Top-order is able to overcome that, there won’t be any stopping this Indian team.
