IPL 2023: Strongest Retained Squad for Mumbai Indians (MI)

Rohit Sharma to lead as look at the best predicted retained Mumbai Indians (MI) squad players list for IPL 2023.

Mumbai Indians, the most successful franchise in the Indian Premier League history had an unforgettable IPL 2022. They finished in the 10th position in the points table; their worst performance in the history of IPL when in the past they have won the trophy 5 times.

The performance wasn’t a surprise if you had observed their Auction strategy. The team let go of a lot of star players in the Auction in wait of Ishan Kishan, on whom they spent INR 15 Crores. Barring Kishan, most of their buys were young blood or inexperienced overseas players, who couldn’t deliver.

But, will Mumbai Indians do an overhaul of the squad or they will stick to their core? Well, knowing the team Mumbai Indians and their thought process over the year, they are one of the only two teams alongside Chennai Super Kings that gives importance to the consistency of player selection.

So, with the information available in hand, let’s analyze in detail the best predicted squad for Mumbai Indians (MI) for IPL 2023. As usual, we shall break down the squad into different categories, viz., Batters, Wickets keepers, All-rounders, and Wicket keepers.

Batters

Batters: Anmolpreet Singh, Dewald Brevis, Rahul Buddhi, Rohit Sharma & Suryakumar Yadav

Talking about Mumbai Indians’ batters, Mumbai Indians would retain the core comprising of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Dewald Brevis as the primary batting options. All three are likely to be included as the first-choice batting options in the playing 11. Apart from these, MI shall retain Anmolpreet Singh, and Rahul Buddhi.

Wicket-keepers

Keepers: Aryan Juyal, Ishan Kishan & Tristan Stubbs

Coming to wicket-keepers, MI shall retain Ishan Kishan and Tristan Stubbs as their first-choice Indian and Overseas keeper. These two are the hottest wicketkeepers in their respective countries, and shall add tremendous value in 2023 and onwards. Apart from these two, MI shall retain Aryan Juyal as the backup keeper.

All-rounders

Main All-rounders: Jofra Archer, Tilak Varma & Tim David

Backup All-rounders: Arjun Tendulkar, Daniel Sams, Hrithik Shokeen, Mohd. Arshad Khan, Ramandeep Singh & Sanjay Yadav

Coming to the all-rounders, we should most likely see Mumbai Indians parting ways with underperforming Kieron Pollard. It won’t be wise of Mumbai Indians, who finished last in IPL 2022 to spend a million dollars on Pollard when you have the likes of Tim David and Tristan Stubbs for the finishing duties.

Barring Kieron Pollard, Mumbai Indians shall most likely retain the likes of Tilak Varma, Tim David, and Jofra Archer as the primary all-round options. In terms of backups, Mumbai Indians shall have plenty of options in the form of Hrithik Shokeen, Arjun Tendulkar, Daniel Sams, Mohammed Arshad Khan, Ramandeep Singh, and Sanjay Yadav.

Bowlers

Bowlers: Basil Thampi, Jasprit Bumrah, Jaydev Unadkat, Kumar Kartikeya & Murugan Ashwin

Coming to the bowlers, Mumbai Indians shall retain their best pacer Jasprit Bumrah alongside the likes of Jaydev Unadkat and Basil Thampi. In all possibilities, Mumbai Indians will let go of Tymal Mills and Riley Meredith. Instead, Mumbai Indians shall look for fresh overseas pacers in the auction.

When it comes to spinners, Mumbai Indians don’t have a solid spin attack, but decent options to look at. They shall have Murugan Ashwin as the primary spinner with Kumar Kartikeya as a key backup. They would mostly let go of Mayank Markande given the redundancy.
