India vs Australia 2023: T20 Squad and Players List for Both

Experienced World Cup players to be rested as we look at the confirmed best T20 squad and players list for India vs Australia 2023.

Official Squad Announced:

Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad (vc), Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan (wk), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, Ravi Bishnoi & Shreyas Iyer (Last two T20Is).

The ODI World Cup 2023 is going in full flow, and Team India are already riding a winning boat with 6 wins from 6 games. With 12 points under the belt, India are almost in the semis with a foot already inside. A win more, and we would be guaranteed a semi-final spot for the fourth successive World Cup.

While the ODI team is busy playing the World Cup, the selection team and the coaching staff are already planning for the Australia T20 series, which will be played just after the World Cup. Post the final on November 19, which Team India hopefully plays, the 5-match India vs Australia T20 series begins on November 23.

With the World Cup in mind, a lot of experienced Indian players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, etc. missed a lot of the T20 series. But will they continue to be rested after the World Cup? Well, let’s analyze the current situation, and find out the best possible squad for India vs Australia T20 2023 series.

Team India’s Best T20 Squad for Australia Series:

Batters – Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tilak Varma & Yashasvi Jaiswal

Team India have been persisting with Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, and Yashasvi Jaiswal for quite a good number of T20 series now. With Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul expected to be rested, India will once again persist with the same batting combination. In addition, India would see Suryakumar Yadav leading the side with Shubman Gill also included.

The young brigade of Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, and Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed everyone at the recently concluded Asian Games in Hangzhou. All 4 played a key role in India’s Gold medal Triumph. Hence, there is no doubt that these four are potential players in contention for T20 World Cup 2024.

WKs – Ishan Kishan & Sanju Samson

Talking about the wicket-keepers, India have been vouching for Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson for quite some time for the shortest format of the game. Expect India to stick to the same wicket-keeper combination with Jitesh Sharma being the backup in case of any injury concerns. This also means Rishabh Pant would need a few more months to recover.

All-rounders – Axar Patel, Shivam Dube & Washington Sundar

Coming to the All-rounders, India are expected to give a rest to Hardik Pandya. Pandya, as we all know will play a crucial role in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Having sustained an injury in the ongoing World Cup, India would not want to risk their prime All-rounder for a not-so-important Bilateral T20 series.

With Hardik and potentially Jadeja also rested, Team India shall rely on Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, and Washington Sundar for the All-rounder slots. While Axar Payel shall be returning from an injury, Sundar and Dube did pretty well in the recently concluded Asian Games to get another opportunity in the Australia series.

Bowlers – Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, R. Sai Kishore, Ravi Bishnoi & Umran Malik

Finally, talking about the bowlers, the main point will be whether India select their ODI specialists, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav for the T20 series too. Well, India may want to give their fast bowlers as much rest as possible after a hectic World Cup. However, being a spinner, Kuldeep Yadav could be there with the 2024 T20 World Cup in mind.

Supporting Kuldeep Yadav in the spin department shall be R. Sai Kishore and Ravi Bishnoi. Both Bishnoi and Kishore had a successful Asian Games campaign, and India would want to persist with them for a few series more. This also means Yuzvendra Chahal shall continue to remain on the sidelines for now.

For the pace department, India shall persist with Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar as the primary pacers. Whereas Prasidh Krishna and Umran Malik could be the new pace additions to the team looking at the 2023 T20 World Cup. There are also options in the form of Avesh Khan, Shivam Mavi, and Akash Deep, but guess they will have to wait for their chance.

India vs Australia 2023 Confirmed Best T20 Squad for Team India:

Batters: Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tilak Varma & Yashasvi Jaiswal

WKs: Ishan Kishan & Sanju Samson

All-rounders: Axar Patel, Shivam Dube & Washington Sundar

Bowlers: Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, R. Sai Kishore, Ravi Bishnoi & Umran Malik

Overall, expect India to select an 18-member squad given there are 5 T20 matches vs Australia, and India are playing at home. In case India decide to select only 15 players, the ones missing out could be Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav (Rested), and Umran Malik.

Meanwhile, coming to the Australian squad, they have already announced their official squad with a few surprising omissions. While David Warner, Steve Smith, Adam Zampa, and Glenn Maxwell are the experienced players from the ODI World Cup squad, the team shall be led by Matthew Wade.
