India vs Bangladesh 1st Test 2022: Best Predicted Playing 11 for Both Teams

Captain Rohit Sharma ruled out as we look at the best predicted playing 11 for the 2022 India vs Bangladesh 1st Test match.

The Indian team has had a disappointing start to the 2022 Bangladesh Tour having lost the ODI series 1-2. The team did make an inspirational comeback after losing the first two ODIs, but it doesn’t discount the fact that Team India have played way below-par Cricket in the ODI series.

The Indian team will have to forget what has happened in the ODI series, and start afresh in the Test series. The 2-match Test series is a part of the World Test Championship, and India can’t afford any defeat in the series. A loss could mean India’s chances of qualifying for the WTC final becomes minimum.

While India start the Test Series as favorites given the history, the team would be without four of their first-choice players for the 1st Test. Jasprit Bumrah was not selected for the Test series owing to an injury. But among selected players, India have lost Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami due to injury.

Undoubtedly, India would have to play their A cricket to beat the Bangla Tigers at their den. They can certainly do it, but what playing 11 will the team select with so many injuries? Well, let’s look at the best predicted playing 11 for Team India for the 2022 1st Test vs Bangladesh. Before that, let’s look at the official squad and key match details for the 1st Test.

Team India’s Predicted Playing 11

Batters:

Team India’s playing 11 selection will see a change in the opening combination with the unavailability of Rohit Sharma. With Rohit not available for the 1st Test at least, Shubman Gill is most likely to open alongside Captain KL Rahul. Shubman Gill will be carrying his excellent form from the ODIs to the Test matches. Whereas KL Rahul would want to lead from the front having don the Captaincy duties.

The middle-order should remain unchanged with Cheteshwar Pujara at 3, Virat Kohli at 4, and Shreyas Iyer at 5. Given the options, these three are the best bet India have at the moment. The good thing is the current form of these gentlemen. All three are coming off a fantastic 2022, and would want to continue the momentum in the Test series as well.

Coming to the lower-order, we should see Rishabh Pant as a key wicket-keeper batter at 6. Unlike other batters, Rishabh Pant’s form hasn’t been good recently. But Test cricket is his den, and ideally, he would need only a few overs in the middle to get going. India would definitely need their best-ranked Test batter to do well in both Test matches.

Bowlers:

Talking about the bowling, India would definitely select Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin as the spin-bowling all-rounders. Ravindra Jadeja would have made it a trio of all-rounders, but with Jadeja missing, India would have to make a call between one of Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav.

In an ideal scenario, India should select Kuldeep Yadav as a third spin option. While it may devoid India of batting depth, it would definitely make India’s bowling stronger with the pitch assist spin. But don’t discount the surprising selection of the Indian team if they select Shardul Thakur ahead of Kuldeep Yadav.

Talking about the pacers, the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami means the responsibility would now lie with Mohammed and Umesh Yadav. They may not match the quality of Shami and Bumrah, but by no means are less potent options. While Siraj is coming off a fantastic ODI form, Sub-continent is Umesh Yadav’s strength. Both would definitely add great value to the squad.

KL Rahul (c), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Umesh Yadav & Mohammed Siraj

So, that’s about the best predicted playing 11 for Team India for the 2022 1st Test vs Bangladesh. The top 6 players select for themselves for Team India, and the only selection choice that Team India would have to make is to choose one between Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur. The rest of the bowling once again selects for itself.
