India vs New Zealand 2023: Predicted ODI and T20 Squad for India

With a successful start to 2023 against Sri Lanka, Team India will now gear for their second and more important campaign, the New Zealand series. It’s the same setup that we saw against Sri Lanka with India playing 3 ODIs followed by 3 T20Is against New Zealand.

The New Zealand series begins just a couple of days post the completion of the ODI series vs Sri Lanka; thus giving very less chance for the players to settle in. With such less gap between SL and NZ series, it would also be interesting to see what the team setup looks like for both series.

So, what changes can we expect and what could be the strongest predicted squad for Team India for the 2023 ODI and T20 series vs New Zealand? Let’s find out in this article. We will first analyze the ODI series squad followed by the T20 series squad. 

Team India’s Predicted 16-Member ODI Series Squad

The biggest question for Team India while selecting the ODI series squad would be the availability of three players, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and KL Rahul. While Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are recovering from injuries, it looks unlikely they would be added to the squad. 

Meanwhile, KL Rahul is expected to take personal leave around the 20th of January for his marriage with Athiya Shetty. So, expect KL Rahul to miss the ODI series. However, If at all KL plays, it could only be for the first two ODIs scheduled on the 18th and 20th of January.

If KL Rahul misses out and Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson still recovering, India will now have to accommodate another keeper batter. Given the options available from Domestic cricket, Jitesh Sharma seems to best bet available. While Jitesh may not be a part of the 20-player core, the unfortunate injuries mean India will have to play Jitesh.

Team India’s Predicted 16-Member T20 Series Squad

Team India rested a lot of senior players for the T20 series vs Sri Lanka. But will all or some return for the T20 series as well vs New Zealand? Well, hearing the statement of Rohit Sharma in the press conference, it looks unlikely they will play the T20 series. So, expect Hardik to lead the T20 squad as usual. 

Meanwhile, the T20 series is going to begin two days after the ODI series. If we have observed the T20 squad vs Sri Lanka, all players performed well, so it looks unlikely India would drop any player on the performance basis. However, they can add a player or two more, if required. 

The only forced change that we may see in the squad is the selection of Jitesh Sharma in place of Sanju Samson. This looks like the only change that Team India will do.
