But Rishabh Pant is almost fit, and can at least play as a batter in IPL 2024.

Openers – David Warner & Prithvi Shaw

If we talk about the best openers for Delhi Capitals, David Warner looks irreplaceable for them. He has been a stalwart in the IPL, and has performed in a similar fashion for Delhi Capitals. But the same can’t be said about Prithvi Shaw, who is currently going through a major slump in his cricketing career. While Shaw will not face the heat straight up, if he doesn’t perform as an opener in the initial few matches, expect DC to drop him, and play another young Indian opener instead. 

Middle-order – Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant & Harry Brook

Talking about the middle-order, Delhi will be excited with the return of their leader and most valuable player, Rishabh Pant. With Pant playing at 4, and a solid Mitchell Marsh at 3, Delhi Capitals look to have a solid top 4. Similarly, the newly added Harry Brook will be an exciting option to play at the number 5 position. Brook generally plays as a finisher for England, and playing at 5, he can adapt easily.  

Finishers

Kumar Khushagra, Axar Patel & Lalit Yadav

Coming to the finishers, one name that the Delhi Capitals and their fans will be most excited to see is Kumar Khushagra. With Rishabh Pant unable to do wicket-keeping, Kumar will be expected to play that role. The kid is also very highly backed by the likes of Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting. Alongside Kumar, we will see Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav playing the role of the finishers. 

Bowlers – Anrich Nortje, Kuldeep Yadav & Mukesh Kumar

Finally talking about the bowling, aside from the all-rounders Mitchell Marsh, Axar Patel, and Lalit Yadav, the team will see Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, and Anrich Nortje as their first-choice bowlers. Given that Delhi Capitals will be batting first, they will play a bowler less. But this seems to be a good combination of spin and pace with three pacers as of now in combination with 3 spinners.

With this, Delhi will have 7 bowling options to explore. Meanwhile, in terms of impact players, Delhi Capitals will mostly keep Yash Dhull, Sumit Kumar, Ishan Sharma, and Pravin Dubey on the ranks.

#1: Yash Dhull for Lalit Yadav

Talking about the alternate playing 11 options for Delhi Capitals, the first one is playing a specialist batter, Yash Dhull in place of Lalit Yadav. Given the dynamics of the Delhi Capitals team, even if we leave out Lalit Yadav, they still have 6 bowling options to ponder. So, playing a specialist batter in place of Lalit Yadav won’t be a bad option.

#2: Ishant Sharma for Khaleel Ahmed

Delhi Capitals have a superb bunch of pacers to explore, and the problem of plenty is clearly visible to them. While Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed seem to be the first-choice and strongest options for Delhi Capitals, the team can also explore playing Ishan Sharma or even Sumit Kumar in place of Khaleel Ahmed or Mukesh Kumar. 

#3: Tristan Stubbs for Harry Brook

Finally, as a third option, the team can play a wicket-keeper finisher Tristan Stubbs in place of Harry Brook. This way, Delhi may not have to play Kumar Khushagra mandatorily. Instead, they can play Yash Dhull or Swastik Chhikara as a pure batter. The option may not be utilized straightaway as Delhi invested a lot in Brook, but in case he isn’t available or is out of form, it certainly is lucrative.
