The ODI World Cup 2023 concludes, and it concludes in a disheartening fashion for all the Indian team fans across the globe. So near yet so far as the Indian team. This was the strongest team we have seen in an ICC tournament, but unfortunately, we lost a one-sided final to the Aussies, who just find a way to win the ICC Trophies as if they limitlessly belonged to them. 

While the disappointment is still in our minds, as they say for our good heart and mind, we have to move on and focus on the upcoming events. With the World Cup concluded, the focus will now shift to the IPL 2024 Auction where all 10 franchise teams are already in the planning stage of finalizing the list of players they would like to retain. 

So, In this article, we analyze the Rajasthan Royals squad, who similar to the Indian team that won the Innagural T20 World Cup shall be looking at their second trophy in 2024. So, with the best data that we have in front, let’s look at the best predicted retained players list for Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction.

Batters – Devdutt Padikkal, Joe Root (o), Shimron Hetmyer (o) & Yashasvi Jaiswal

If we talk about the batters that Rajasthan Royals will plan to retain, we have two Indians and two overseas players. While Indian players are Devdutt Padikkal and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the overseas players are Joe Root and Shimron Hetmyer. While three of these four are almost confirmed to be retained, Joe Root’s name can be debatable.

Root hasn’t been in the bests of form off late, and that could be the reason for his noninclusion. However, expect RR to give him one more chance. Meanwhile, other than Root, expect Rajasthan Royals to release Kunal Rathore, who doesn’t seem to bring the confidence in the management to retain him. He also didn’t feature in any matches in IPL 2023. 

WKs – Dhruv Jurel, Donavon Ferreira (o), Jos Buttler (o) & Sanju Samson (c)

Coming to the wicket-keepers, the only name that RR may think to debate is Donavan Ferreira. Donavan is still young, and isn’t a part of the South African national setup as yet. While he hasn’t featured in IPL as yet, he could be retained purely for his potential. Other than Ferreira, Dhruv Jurel, Jos Buttler, and Captain Sanju Samson are sure-shot retainers. 

Spin All-rounders – Ravichandran Ashwin & Riyan Parag

Coming to the spin all-rounders, two names that Rajasthan Royals may release are Abdul Basith and Akash Vasisth. Both didn’t play any role in IPL 2023, and it looks unlikely RR will retain them for 2023. Other than these two, the ones that RR will definitely retain are Riyan Parag and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Riyan has been stunning in Domestic Circuit, and that should prompt RR management to trust him for yet another year even after a disaster in IPL 2023. Other than the discussed players, one All-rounder that RR shall definitely release is Jason Holder, who was below-par in IPL 2023, and doesn’t seem to inspire confidence as an all-rounder anymore. 

Spinners – Adam Zampa (o), Murugan Ashwin & Yuzvendra Chahal

Coming to all-rounders, expect Rajasthan Royals to retain the spin trio of Adam Zampa, Murugan Ashwin, and Yuzvendra Chahal. And the one that RR may let go is KC Cariappa, who didn’t have much role to play in IPL 2023. It looks unlikely RR may invest in KC Kariappa for yet another year, and instead will look for fresh blood in the Auction. 

Pacers – Avesh Khan, Kuldeep Sen, Kuldip Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Obed McCoy (o), Prasidh Krishna & Trent Boult (o) 

Coming to the pacers, expect Rajasthan Royals to retain the Indian pace quartet of Kuldeep Sen, Kuldip Yadav, Navdeep Saini, and Prasidh Krishna. However, they could let go of KM Asif and Sandeep Sharma in a bid to look for fresh players in the Auction. Other than these four, expect RR to retain the overseas pace duo of Obed McCoy and Trent Boult.

Bowlers: Adam Zampa (o), Avesh Khan, Kuldeep Sen, Kuldip Yadav, Murugan Ashwin, Navdeep Saini, Obed McCoy (o), Prasidh Krishna, Trent Boult (o) & Yuzvendra Chahal

So, that’s about the best retained players list for Rajasthan Royals (RR) for IPL 2024. Overall, expect RR to retain 19 players including 7 overseas players. If RR retain 19 players as shown, they will have around INR 15 Cr in the Auction. Moreover, if RR need space for more overseas players, Joe Root could be the first name to go under the hammer.
