Team India Current Best All-format Playing 11 in 2025 Explained
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, the outliers in our analysis of the current best all-format playing 11 for Team India in 2025.
It’s been only a few days since RoKo (Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli) officially retired from the longest format of the game, but deep down we are already feeling the pain. The duo retired from the shortest format of the game, T20Is, only last year, and this year, they retired from Test cricket. While they will still represent the Indian team in ODIs, the fact remains that we would miss our duo RoKo in 2 formats going forward.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were among only a handful of players who represented India in all 3 formats. Only recently the duo were offered a central contract in the highest price bracket, A+. But unfortunately, we won’t see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in whites anymore. With these two gone, only a few players remain who are playing all 3 formats, or are in contention to play all 3 formats.
So, in this article, we take a look at 11 best players who are either currently representing India in all 3 formats (including IPL), or are in contention of doing that. Needless to say, the article will be without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as the duo has retired from Test cricket. Also, while selecting the best playing 11 for India in 2025, we shall look at a minimum of 7 batting options, 1 wicket-keeper, and at least 5 bowling options.
Team India Current Best All-format Playing 11 in 2025 Explained
If we start with the top-order, there are only three names who are currently representing the Indian team in at least two formats, and are either good in the other format, or in contention. So, we are talking about Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and KL Rahul. Shubman Gill represents India in Test and ODI formats, he is in contention for T20Is, and is already an established batter in T20s.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is the future of the Indian team without any doubt. He has already established himself as a solid Test and T20 batter, and we will soon see him succeed in ODIs as well. Meanwhile, KL Rahul represents India in Test and ODI format, and he may be out of contention from T20Is, but is already a successful T20 batter, and if given a chance once again, he can be a solid middle-order batter too.
Coming to the middle-order, there are two names who represent India in more than one format, or are in contention of doing that. Yes, we are talking about Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. Rishabh Pant is India’s best wicket-keeper currently, and is an established player in whites. His limited-overs record may not be that good, but is still in contention for ODIs as well as T20Is. He has also been doing well in the Indian Premier League, except for the current 2025 season.
Shreyas Iyer Deserves More Opportunities
Other than Pant, if there is one player who has improved tremendously over the years, it is Shreyas Iyer. Shreyas Iyer represents India in ODI format as a solid middle-order batter. However, in the last 1-2 years, Shreyas has worked on his weaknesses pretty well, and with great intention, he has already shown major improvements in the IPL. He can also be looked at as a Test batter, but GG and BCCI should see that confidence. He may not be an all-format player at the moment, but certainly can be looked at.
If we talk about the two best all-rounders in the Indian team who are likely candidates for an all-format playing 11, we are talking about Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja. Axar and Jadeja have represented India in all 3 formats. However, Axar is currently out of contention from the Test format, and Jadeja has retired from T20Is. But it is a matter of fact before Axar gets back in the Indian Test team, and Jadeja, on the other hand, is already doing quite well in T20s via IPL.
Finally, talking about the best all-format bowlers for India, there shouldn’t be much debate on this front as we have seen for the last 2-3 years, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav have been leading the bowling attack for India in all 3 formats. In terms of their main focus, we have Bumrah in all 3 formats without a doubt, Shami in Test and ODIs, Siraj in Tests and ODIs, and Kuldeep in ODIs and T20Is.
