Bowling in Middle overs is an art, and spinners are the front runners of the game when it comes to bowling in this phase of the game. While containing the run flow is the primary responsibility during this phase of the innings, if a spinner is able to pick wickets alongside containing the run flow, it’s a blessing for the team to have such spinners in the side. Needless to say, every team is filled with at least 2-3 solid spinners who are important to be bowling in this phase of the game.

The year 2025 saw the likes of Noor Ahmad, R Sai Kishore, Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, and uncapped Digvesh Rathi make a mark with their spin bowling. These spinners were impressive in deceiving the batters, and also taking important wickets for their team. Since spinners are an important category of players in a team, retaining them will be an important strategy in the game.

But which spinners are set to be retained for IPL 2026? Well, let’s analyse the current players’ list, and find out the best spinners set to be retained by all 10 Teams for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Please note, we will only look at the spinners who are either primary spinners or spin-bowling all-rounders. We won’t include part-time spinners like Abdul Samad, Nitish Rana, etc., in the list.

The Chennai Super Kings team should retain a total of 3 spinners, with Noor Ahmad being their best spinner, and Jadeja and Rachin being the other two spinners. Even as CSK is known for producing quality spinners, they will need a revamp in IPL 2026 by identifying 2-3 quality spinners in the Auction. The team will most-likely release Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Goyal among the two front-line spinners as they don’t add much value to the team.

Similar to CSK, the Delhi Capitals team should retain only three spinners in the form of Axar Patel, Vipraj Nigam, and Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep Yadav remains the best spinner of the team, and the other two have also been a part of the playing 11 in all matches. With these three retained, Delhi Capitals should release a few redundant spin all-rounders from the side.

5. Washington Sundar

The Gujarat Titans team should retain the maximum number of spinners, 7. The team is filled with quality spinners, and at a time, they generally play 4 spinners in the playing 11. Rashid Khan, R Sai Kishore, Washington Sundar, and Rahul Tewatia are the primary spinners in the side; however, Tewatia hardly bowls any more, even though he has the skills. Apart from these four, GT should retain Mahipal Lomror, Manav Suthar, and Nishant Sindhu among other good spin options.

The KKR team is known for spin bowling, and they should retain 5 spinners in the side for IPL 2026. Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine are the leading spinners in the side, and alongside these two, the team should retain Anukul Roy, Moeen Ali, and Mayank Markande as three more spinners. 

IPL 2026 Best Retained Spinners List for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

1. Shahbaz Ahmed
2. Digvesh Rathi
3. Ravi Bishnoi

The LSG team saw the emergence of Digvesh Rathi among the best spinners to have performed in IPL 2025. It is evident that the LSG team considers Digvesh as their primary spinner, and Bishnoi merely looks mortal in front of him. Aside from these two, LSG should retain Shahbaz Ahmed, and they also have Abdul Samad and Aiden Markram to bowl part-time spin.

The Mumbai Indians team, which is known for pacers, will still retain a good number of spinners for IPL 2026. Talking about Punjab Kings, the team should retain four spinners in the form of Yuzvendra Chahal, Pravin Dubey, Harpreet Brar, and Musheer Khan. Yuzi Chahal, who wasn’t so impressive for a price of 18 Cr, should still be retained by the team. In addition, the team will see Harpreet Brar and Pravin Dubey among the good spinners to be retained for IPL 2026.

Coming to the Rajasthan Royals, the team will retain the Sri Lankan spin duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana. Other than these two, RR have only Riyan Parag as the other spinner in the team that they will likely retain.

The IPL 2025 champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, should retain a total of 5 spinners for IPL 2026. Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya should continue to lead the spin duties for the Rajasthan Royals, and other than these two, the team will retain the likes of Jacob Bethell, Manoj Bhandage, and Swapnil Singh as other spin options in the side.

4. Zeeshan Ansari

Finally, coming to Sunrisers Hyderabad, the team will retain four spinners for IPL 2026. It’s unfortunate, but it looks like SRH might release Adam Zampa and Rahul Chahar, as both seem to be redundant in the side. Zeeshan Ansari is the leading spinner in the side for now, and he will have support from Abhishek Sharma, Harsh Dubey, and Kamindu Mendis.
