India vs Australia 2023: Predicted ODI Squad and 18 Players List

Team India to name a full-fledged squad as we look at the strongest predicted Players list for the 2023 ODI series vs Australia.

Team India are currently on a row having won back-to-back ODI series on home soil vs Sri Lanka and New Zealand respectively. It’s the sight that delights the fans of the Indian cricket team. Post the New Zealand series, Team India then face their most-important ODI series of the year vs  Australia.

The 5-times World Champions are magnanimous in this format – be it facing Away from Home or at Home. Even though India would be playing only 3 matches, those 3-matches will bring an immense challenge to the table with ODI World Cup 2023 in sight.

Team India have currently named only the squad for the first two Tests vs Australia. They are yet to name the squad for the last two tests and the ODI series. With the ODI series holding significant importance, India would want to name a full-fledged squad, unless for injuries. 

But there are a few questions that we would need to find the answers to. While we analyze the current squad and its strength, we would also look at the strongest predicted squad that Team India may put forward for the 2023 ODI series vs Australia. 

Team India’s Predicted ODI Series Squad

Batters

If we talk about the current set of batters, India are confirmed to continue with the same set of 5 batters until the ODI World Cup 2023. So, we have Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as first-choice openers. Supporting them shall ve Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav in the middle-order.

Apart from these five, India have only Rajat Patidar as a backup option in ODIs, who has been called into the team as and when there has been an injury. However, with Shreyas expected to return, Rajar Patidar will have to make way for him; unless of course any one of these five gets injured. 

Wicket-keepers: 

Coming to the Wicket-keepers, India would once again be without two strong options in the form of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson. While Pant will take at least 3-4 months before he plays any game of Cricket, Sanju may not be able to recover by next month. But even if Sanju is fit, India may defer selecting him. So, we should see Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul donning the wicket-keeping role. 

All-rounders: 

Coming to the All-rounders, India should finally see the return of Ravindra Jadeja in the squad. While that could mean India may leave Axar Patel out, India would still want to keep him in the squad in case he is expected to play. Apart from these two, Hardik and Washington Sundar may continue to be in the squad. 

Spinners:

Talking about the spinners, we should see the same duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav in the squad. Both have been India’s first-choice spinners for quite some time now, and India would want to continue with them once again. Supporting them shall be the all-rounder spin trio of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar. 

Pacers:

Finally, if we look at the pacers, India should see the return of their best pacer, Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah had been recovering from injury for quite some time now, but he should be able to fully recover and take a place in the squad for the Australia ODIs. With Bumrah returning, India may ideally keep one of Shardul or Umran out.

But with the series being at home, India won’t mind keeping both in the squad. Apart from these three, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj shall continue to be the primary pacers in the squad alongside Jasprit Bumrah. So, expect India to select all 5 pacers.

So, that’s about the strongest predicted squad list for Team India for the 2023 ODI series vs Australia. With the series being at home and against a strong opponent, expect India to select an 18-member squad.
