India vs England 2022: Best Predicted Playing 11 – T20 Series and 1st T20I

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan to open as we look at the best predicted playing 11 for Team India for the 2022 T20 series vs England.

5 days of non-stop Test Cricket action between India and England resulted in England edging India to win the 5th Test match by 4 wickets. With this win, England managed to level the series 2-2. With the conclusion of the 5th Test match, India and England now move to the high-octane limited-overs series.

The limited-overs series starts with 3-match T20 series. While players who were involved in the Test series will be missing the 1st T20I, India will be playing a full-strength squad for the 2nd and 3rd T20I. With Rohit missing the 5th Test match, he will be leading the side for the entire limited-overs series.

With Team India fielding two different teams, it would be interesting to see the best predicted playing 11 for Team India for 1st T20I and T20 series vs England. So, for the ease of our analysis, we will look at the two playing 11s. One that would be the best one for the overall T20 series. Whereas 2nd would be the best one for the 1st T20I.

England vs India 2022 – Official T20 Series Squad for Team India:

Players for the entire T20 Series:

Batters: Rohit Sharma & Suryakumar Yadav

Wks: Dinesh Karthik & Ishan Kishan

All-rounders: Axar Patel, Deepak Hooda & Hardik Pandya

Bowlers: Avesh Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Umran Malik & Yuzvendra Chahal

Only 1st T20I: Arshdeep Singh, Rahul Tripathi, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson & Venkatesh Iyer

Only 2nd & 3rd T20Is: Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Iyer & Virat Kohli

Openers: Rohit Sharma & Ishan Kishan

If we talk about the best two openers for Team India in the absence of KL Rahul, it would be Captain Rohit Sharma and southpaw Ishan Kishan. With Rohit Sharma back after getting hit by COVID, Team India will look for a settled combination after having tried Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson. Unfortunately, Ruturaj and Samson aren’t selected for the 2nd and 3rd T20I, but would be available for the first T20I.

Middle-order: Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav & Rishabh Pant

Coming to the middle-order, the biggest debate would be the selection of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. While Iyer has shown good form in T20Is off late, Rishabh Pant has been struggling for form in the shortest format of the game. But with Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav back in the squad and Dinesh Karthik giving good returns, it would be an interesting selection choice.

Now, It is understandable that Shreyas Iyer has scored good runs in T20Is off late in the absence of Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. But honestly, he was able to score those runs because these two weren’t there. So, Shreyas Iyer will have to sit out given that Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav are more established T20 players, and would be first-choice players with the 2022 T20 World Cup in mind.

Between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik, it would be a tough call to make. Pant hasn’t been that successful in T20Is, but given his form in Tests, a strong lefty in the middle-order, and a long-term prospect in mind, Pant could be given his first chance in the T20 series. So, even as Karthik has been in superb form off late, he will have to wait a little more.

Finishers: Hardik Pandya & Ravindra Jadeja

Coming to the finishers, the combination of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will play for Team India after a long time. Both will play the role of finisher all-rounder, and roll manages the finishing duties along with the 5th and 6th bowling options. The good thing is that both Hardik and Jaddu are in superb form, and that would make our lower-order stronger.

Bowlers: Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshewar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah & Yuzvendra Chahal

Coming to the bowling options, Team India would field their strongest bowling combination available at the moment. The team would see Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Hardik Pandya with the new ball mostly. Yuzi Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, and Harshal Patel will primarily bowl in the middle overs. Whereas Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel, and Bhuvi will mostly bowl the death Overs.

While the above team holds good for 2nd and 3rd T20Is, the first T20I shall see a few changes.
