IPL 2022: Strongest Predicted Playing 11 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Overseas batters, the key focus as we look at the best predicted playing 11 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for IPL 2022.

The last team in the lot, the Sunrisers Hyderabad made a lot of fuzz ahead of the Auction. Not only did they let go of their Most Valuable Player in history, David Warner, but they also failed to retain their most valuable bowler in history, Rashid Khan. Instead, the team trusted the leadership of Kane Williamson as the Kiwi batter was retained alongside youngsters Umran Malik and Abdul Samad.

The IPL 2022 Mega Auction was more or less a successful affair for the Sunrisers. Their focus was on filling the gaps for the playing 11, and they seem to have done a good job for that. Some of the star players that SRH acquired include Nicholas Pooran, Rahul Tripathi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Romario Shephard, Washington Sundar, and Aiden Markram.

So, with the kind of squad SRH have assembled, let’s look at the strongest predicted playing 11 for Sunrisers Hyderabad for IPL 2022? Before that, let’s also look at the complete squad of SRH. Also, please note, the playing 11 is selected keeping 4-5 batters, minimum 2 all-rounders, 1 wicket-keeper, and minimum 3 pacers in mind.

IPL 2022 Final Squad for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Batters and WKs: Aiden Markram, Kane Williamson (C), Priyam Garg, Rahul Tripathi, Ravikumar Samarth, Nicholas Pooran (WK) & Vishnu Vinod (WK)

All-rounders: Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Glenn Philips, Marco Jansen, Romario Shephard, Sean Abbott, Shashank Singh & Washington Sundar

BowlersBhuvneshwar Kumar, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Kartik Tyagi, Saurabh Dubey, T Natarajan, Umran Malik, Jagadeesha Suchith & Shreyas Gopal

Openers: Kane Williamson (C) & Abhishek Sharma

The first question that SRH management shall face is whom to open with. They currently have four openers in their squad with Rahul Tripathi, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, and Captain Kane Williamson himself. Of the four, young Abhishek Sharma, who also opens for Punjab in domestic cricket should be one of the openers. The talented youngster is an attacking batter, and can be a valuable asset in the powerplay.

Supporting Abhishek can be one of Rahul Tripathi, Kane Williamson, or Aiden Markram. But as announced earlier by SRH management, it is most-likely going be the captain himself. Kane shall lead his team from the front, and can adapt his game quite well. He can play the role of an anchor with other attacking batters playing beside him.

Middle-order: Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram & Nicholas Pooran (WK)

Sunrisers Hyderabad shall see a completely revamped middle-order this time; although a stronger one to be honest. Rahul Tripathi shall be playing at 3 as he had been for KKR. He would be followed by dynamic pair of Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran. The former PBKS middle-order duo would be looking to better their game for SRH this time around.

Overall, the top 5 for SRH has 4 solid experienced batters and one young talented hitter. Without David Warner, Manish Pandey, and Jonny Bairstow, this may look a little feeble, but they almost got like-for-like replacements in the form of Aiden Markram, Rahul Tripathi, and Nicholas Pooran.

Finisher All-rounders: Abdul Samad, Romario Shephard & Washington Sundar

The finisher all-rounders once again look potent for SRH. Romario Shephard and Abdul Samad provide for good firepower in the lower-order. With young Abdul Samad around, Romario may have to take more responsibility in the batting as he had been doing for the West Indies

In addition, SRH bought Washington Sundar, who can chip in with valuable knocks as and when needed. He seems a perfect option for the number 8 position. Sundar shall also be the leading spinner of the squad. He shall seek support from the slow left-arm spin of Abhishek Sharma.

Bowlers: Kartik Tyagi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar & T Natarajan

The pace bowling for SRH shall once again be relying on the Indian contingent as we had also seen in their previous years. Bhuvneshwar Kumar shall lead the bowling attack alongside T Natarajan with Kartik Tyagi giving a valuable cover. While Bhuvi shall focus on powerplay and death overs, Kartik Tyagi shall be more for powerplay and middle overs. Whereas T Natarajan shall see his value more for middle overs and death overs.

Strongest Predicted Playing 11 for Sunrisers Hyderabad for IPL 2022:

Kane Williamson (C), Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Abdul Samad, Romario Shephard, Washington Sundar, Kartik Tyagi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar & T Natarajan

So, that completes the strongest predicted playing 11 for SRH for IPL 2022. Overall, the playing 11 looks lethal with the right mix of youth and experience. While they have good experienced players in each category, the only challenge is, they have at least one inexperienced player in each category. Under the leadership of Kane Williamson, this team can be a winner.

Meanwhile, barring the above-mentioned best playing 11, Sunrisers Hyderabad can also look at the following combinations.

Other Playing 11 Options for Sunrisers Hyderabad:

  • Shreyas Gopal for Kartik Tyagi for spin-friendly pitches
  • Umran Malik for Kartik Tyagi for more pace firepower
  • Priyam Garg for Aiden Markram and Sean Abbott / Marco Jansen for Kartik Tyagi for more experience in the bowling
