India vs Bangladesh 2022: 2nd ODI Predicted Playing 11

Team India expected to make 2 changes as we look at the predicted playing 11 for the 2022 India vs Bangladesh 2nd ODI.  

2015 was the last time India played an ODI series vs Bangladesh. India had lost the first two matches of the ODI series before winning the last match of the series. The current ODI series has also begun on the same note with India losing the 1st ODI in a closely fought encounter.

While India did bowl well to restrict Bangladesh to 136/9, the team would be disappointed to not have taken the last wicket as the 10th wicket added more than 50 runs to register a historic win. But more than the bowling, India would curse their batting, which was extremely poor except for KL Rahul.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy too looked baffling. When Washington Sundar bowled such a brilliant spell of 2/17 in 5 overs, he was not given bowling after 27th over. Sundar was clearly the best bowler of the match until then having bowled beautifully on a spin-friendly wicket. But Rohit didn’t even think of using him for the last wicket, which could have changed things a bit.  

Another important point to observe was the team selection. Given the history and conditions of the pitch, it was surprising to see India opting for only 5 good batters with the following 4 being bowling all-rounders. India went with 6 bowling options, when in fact 5 bowlers were enough.

Team India went with a 5 batters and 6 bowlers strategy in the 1st ODI vs Bangladesh. With regular keeper, Rishabh Pant ruled out, India decided to not give Ishan Kishan a game, and instead kept with KL Rahul. The decision did prove costly as KL Rahul dropped a dolly – a catch that actually cost India the match. 

But will India go with the same strategy of 6 bowlers with KL Rahul as a keeper? For starters, India would like to strengthen their batting, and with the lack of a proper batting all-rounder, India will be forced to play only 5 bowlers. Thus, one of Rahul Tripathi or Ishan Kishan could play in place of Kuldeep Sen. 

If Kishan plays, he will only have the number 6 position to go with. This would be a difficult number for him to bat. So, most likely Rahul Tripathi should make his debut as a finisher. Kishan can also play if India decide to play him as a primary wicket-keeper. But India could persist with KL Rahul as the keeper for the entire series, and that means Kishan will be left out. 

Another change that India could make is to play Axar Patel for Shahbaz Ahmed as the former was not available for the first ODI. Axar is a senior player, and if he is available, he should play in place of Shahbaz Ahmed, who was decent in the first ODI. 

Finally, India would want their top order of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli to give better output this time. Until 2019, these three were at the top of their game. But the last 2-3 years have seen their downfall. While quality is still there, the lack of form is catching them.
