Exclusive: IPL 2026 Biggest Flop Players 11 At Halfway Stage

With Ruturaj Gaikwad as Captain, explore the biggest IPL 2026 Flop Players XI at the halfway stage of the Indian Premier League.

It’s the halfway stage at the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League, and we have had a solid start in the first half of the tournament. In what we can call a complete batting-friendly tournament, a stagerring 50% of the matches have seen scores in excess of 200+. This is a ridiculous jump from the last decade, where merely 15-20% of the matches had seen 200+ scores, and on very rare occasions, they were chased by teams.

But even as we are seeing a generational shift of pitches where 150-160 were competitive to even 220-230 not being safe, we have batters who have ridiculously underperformed in the tournament. While bowlers are currently experiencing a nightmare in the IPL, there is still no shying away from the fact that at the end of the day, there are no excuses, and you have to look at innovating. But there are definitely laggards in all teams.

So, to look at the biggest Flop Players XI for IPL 2026, we will combine all parameters like runs scored, strike rate, consistency, wickets taken, economy rate, etc. The ones who fail in all these parameters, and have played almost all 7 or nearly 7 matches is being given the priority. So, with the data in front of us from the first half, let’s look at the biggest IPL 2026 Flop Player XI at the halfway stage of the tournament.

IPL 2026 Biggest Flop Players 11 At Halfway Stage

Top-order

Starting with the top-order, and three batters who have been horrible so far this season are CSK’s Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, LSG’s Captain Rishabh Pant, and the Indian T20I Team Captain, Suryakumar Yadav. The Captain trio batted in all matches so far, but barring 1-2 matches, they struggled to get going in all the other matches. The situation is even more horrible for Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has not looked comfortable even once at the crease.

Overall, in 7 matches that Ruturaj has played, he could only manage 104 runs from 7 innings at a horrible strike rate of 119. Rishabh Pant isn’t far behind either. Given his humongous salary of 27 Cr, Pant didn’t even justify getting 2.7 Cr, as he managed just 147 runs from 7 innings at a strike rate of 132. SKY, on the other hand, could only manage 157 runs from 7 innings at a strike rate of 142; well below his usual strike rate of 170+.

Middle-order and Finishers

Coming to the middle-order, we have the batting powerhouse of Riyan Parag and Nicholas Pooran, who have failed completely this season. A lot was expected from Riyan Parag being the Captain, but even with the team winning, Riyan could only contribute 88 runs so far at a poor strike rate of 112. Barring the MI match, Riyan has looked hopeless in the batting. Hopefully, the Captain comes to the party as his batting will be desperately needed in the second half of the tournament.

Coming to Pooran, the blame doesn’t lie with him completely. Pooran did wonderfully well last year for LSG while batting at number 3. He scored more than 500 runs at this position last year, but not once did he play at 3 this year. Pooran batted at 5 in almost all matches for unknown reasons, and thus could only manage 73 runs from 7 innings at a bizarre strike rate of 80. Even as Pooran gets a salary of 21 Cr, he is in contention of getting dropped.

Coming to the finishers, we have the Overseas trio of Glenn Phillips, Shimron Hetmyer, and Romarip Shepherd. Overseas players have mostly been horrible with their performances this season, and this trio is no exception. Glenn Phillips could only manage 67 runs from 7 innings, and has finally been dropped. Hetmyer has been able to retain his place so far, but he could only manage 70 runs so far. Shepherd, meanwhile, has been horrible in the batting and bowling departments, with just 40 runs and 3 wickets.

Bowling Lineup

Now, finally, talking about the worst bowling lineup, we have Jasprit Bumrah leading the attack, with Natarajan and Mukesh being the other worst performers. Bumrah had not taken a wicket in his initial four matches, and he was not economical either. In 7 matches so far, Bumrah could only manage 2 wickets at an ER of 8.1, which is not good as per his standards. Natarajan too could only take 4 wickets at an economy rate of 10. Mukesh isn’t far behind either, with 5 wickets at an ER of 11.

Finally, special mention for Hardik Pandya, who, barring his smile in front of the camera, has looked completely out of form throughout the season so far. In 7 matches, MI have looked completely clueless under his Captaincy, and as a player, he could only manage 3 wickets at an ER of 13, and 97 runs at a strike rate of 141. So, overall, Hardik’s utility as a player dropped drastically so far this season.
