Key ODI players to be rested as we look at the confirmed best T20 squad and players list for India vs Ireland 2023. 

Team India is currently gearing up for their first International tour post the conclusion of IPL 2023. While the senior team will be playing 2 Tests and 3 ODIs vs West Indies in West Indies, there will be a different focus on the T20Is, which has some new names in place. 

Team India selected a total of 15 players for the T20 series vs West Indies. This is quite unlike Team India as they usually send at least a 16-member squad for away tours. As a result of selecting only 15 players, Team India will be without a few potential candidates who had a good IPL 2023, but weren’t selected.

One of the reasons for Team India to select only 15 players is that they wanted to have a lean squad for the West Indies T20 series, and then rest the first-choice ODIs players for the Ireland T20 series that follows later. The 3-match Ireland series begins on August 18, and concludes just a week before Asia Cup 2023. 

So, given the information in hand, what’s the best predicted squad that Team India will select for the 2023 T20 series vs Ireland? Well, let’s find out in this article. As usual, we shall break down the squad analysis into different categories, viz., Batters, Wicket-keepers, All-rounders, and Bowlers.   

Team India’s Best Predicted T20I Squad for Ireland Tour:

Batters:

Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma & Yashasvi Jaiswal

Team India selected Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Yashasvi Jaiswal as the batters for the West Indies T20Is series. But with Shubman and SKY being a part of the ODI squad, resting them for the Ireland T20 series will be ideal. They would need the much-deserved break ahead of Asia Cup 2023, which starts in September.

In place of Shubamn Gill and Suryakumar Yadav, the two hottest properties from IPL 2023, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rinku Singh should get an opportunity. These two should ideally have been a part of West Indies T20Is, but considering a phased approach from India, it makes sense for them to play the Ireland T20I series.     

WKs:

Jitesh Sharma & Sanju Samson

India selected Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson for the West Indies T20Is. But one of these two will be rested for Ireland series, and Ishan Kishan looks likely that candidate. Ishan is the first-choice keeper for India in ODIs, and will also get a not ahead of Sanju Samson if KL Rahul returns for Asia Cup 2023.

So, with Ishan Kishan being rested, we should finally see Jitesh Sharma, who deserved a much-needed selection in the T20I squad. With Sanju Samson as the first-choice keeper for Ireland T20Is, Jitesh Sharma can double up the role as a finisher and wicket-keeper.  

All-rounders:

Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya (c) & Washington Sundar

For the all-rounders, Captain Hardik Pandya should continue to be with the team for the Ireland T20Is. There’s no way Hardik will be rested as India do not have many more Captaincy options. In addition, Axar Patel should also play the Ireland T20Is. Axar may not get selected for Asia Cup 2023 with Jadeja being there.

Apart from these two, Washington Sundar should also get a call for the Ireland T20s. Sundar has been nursing an injury that he sustained in IPL 2023. But with more than a month to go, expect Washington Sundar to be fit and ready for Ireland T20Is.  

Bowlers:

Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar, Ravi Bishnoi, Shivam Mavi & Umran Malik 

For the bowling department, we should see India resting its spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Both will be the first-choice spinners for Asia Cup 2023, and it is only ideal to rest them. While Sundar replaces Kuldeep, we should see an additional pacer in the form of Shivam Mavi in place of Yuzvendra Chahal.

Other than these two, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Umran Malik should continue to be India’s first-choice pacers in the squad. Whereas Ravi Bishnoi should lead the spin duties for Team India in place of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.
