IPL 2020: The Pre-Auction Best 11 of Released Players

IPL 2020: Yuvraj Singh to Captain as we find the best possible pre-auction 11 from the list of released players.

Ahead of the IPL 2020 Auction, 8 IPL franchises have released a total of 71 players. The list includes 34 overseas stars and 37 Indian cricketers. Except for CSK, MI, and SRH to some extent, teams have followed a similar pattern of terminating the contracts of the players within their squad. While certain players were released owing to their inconsistent form, a couple of other cricketers were not retained because of their expensive price-tags.

There is no dearth of skill in this pool of released players, and the teams will surely target a few of these cricketers at the auction. Also, if we pool these players to form a playing 11, it would certainly be a competitive one. In this article, we will be telling you more about the released players who could be a part of the pre-auction best 11. Please note, we shall consider the IPL format with only 4 overseas players in the playing 11. We would also stick to playing 5 Batsmen and 6 Bowlers & All-rounders.

Openers: Chris Lynn & Rahul Tripathi

A tad too inconsistent for his expensive fee, Chris Lynn was a surprise face in the list of players released by KKR. His fragile body might have also played a part in this decision, but 405 runs were not a bad achievement by the Aussie last season. Let alone the other teams, KKR might themselves be in contention to sign the dashing opener again.

Rahul Tripathi is the best option for a domestic opener in the list of players released by IPL franchises. A good timer of the ball, the Maharashtra born cricketer is a useful batsman in the power play. Unfortunately, after a successful season with Rising Pune Supergiants, Tripathi never got a consistent run at the top playing for Rajasthan Royals, hence was released by them.

Other Batsmen: Robin Uthappa (Wk), Yuvraj Singh (C) & David Miller

Robin Uthappa came under the limelight of the critics for his underwhelming show with KKR last season. A target of poor resource management, Robin found himself facing the ax even after being one of their most successful batsmen over the years.

Time and again, Robin has proved his doubters wrong with a commanding show in the IPL. ‘Class never fades away’, and Robin would want himself to be a fine example of this statement next season.

Yuvraj Singh may have retired from International and Domestic Cricket, and may not be available to play IPL 2020, but he is still one of the best middle-order players to have played the shortest format.

From being the only star-player retained by the franchise a few years ago, David Miller was recently a part of the released list of players announced by KXIP. The South African is still an asset in the T20 format, and there could be a couple of teams lining up for him at the auction.

All-Rounders: Shakib Al-Hasan, Yusuf Pathan & Chris Morris

At the twilight of his career, Yusuf Pathan would want to sign off from IPL on a high. Yusuf has impressed with a few fine knocks in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. If he can find a much more flexible role in a different IPL franchise, the player can actually rise to the occasion.

If not for the ban by ICC, Shakib Al-Hasan may see as a retainee. Although the Bangladeshi cricketer will not feature in IPL 2020, he still makes it to this team on account of being one of the best all-rounders in the released list of players.

Chris Morris played 9 games last season, scoring 32 runs and picking 13 wickets in the campaign. The South African’s hefty price-tag was the main reason behind the termination of his contract. Given the talent he is, Delhi Capitals will target to re-sign the player at the upcoming Auction.

Bowlers: Piyush Chawla, Mohit Sharma & Jaydev Unadkat

A wrist-spinner is a trump-card for captains in the shortest format of the game. Piyush Chawla has proved it many times in the past editions of the league. However, the multiple World Cup-winner is in a rough patch right now, and hence, this might have prompted KKR to release him to the auction pool. Nevertheless, Piyush’s experience and sharp sense of the game might still command a few bids at the auction.

If you get the pun, the star bowler, Jayadev Unadkat is back in the Auction. How much are you betting for him this time..? ?

Jokes apart, the expensive signings of the previous auction, Jaydev Unadkat, and Mohit Sharma find themselves back under the hammer on December 19th. While Mohit failed miserably for CSK, Unadkat fared slightly better than his fast-bowling counterpart.

However, both couldn’t justify their price tags, especially Jaydev Unadkat. No doubt both have good capabilities, and would be keen to prove a point in the league, and fall back again in the radar of the national selectors.

So, that’s the best playing 11 of released players before the IPL 2020 Auction. What changes you would have made? Let’s know.

Chris Lynn, Rahul Tripathi, Robin Uthappa (Wk), Yuvraj Singh (C), Shakib Al-Hasan, David Miller, Yusuf Pathan, Chris Morris, Piyush Chawla, Mohit Sharma & Jaydev Unadkat.
