The IPL 2024 is just a month away, but the excitement to witness the tournament in action is already at its peak. One of the things that defines and separates the IPL and T20 format from the other two formats is that it is a batting-centric game. While Tests have become a bowling-centric format, ODIs are a mix of it, and T20s are mostly a batting-centric format.

Having said that, the IPL 2024 Auction has already witnessed teams packing a punch by adding some really good batters to their side. Every team needs a total of 7 players to complete a solid batting lineup in their playing 11. Anything more than 7 is a bonus as then you are talking about bowlers who can give good support in the batting department.

So, with the team players list already finalized for IPL 2024, which team has the batting lineup among all 10 teams? Well, let’s look at the cumulative rating of the top 7 players who will most likely play for their respective franchises. Also, given the impact player rule, we will consider the top 7 who are actually going to play in the playing 11 after the impact player rule is considered as it allows teams to play an extra batter.

Punjab Kings

At number 10, we have the Punjab Kings team with the batting lineup rating of 8.143 for IPL 2024. Punjab Kings have the right mix of experience and youth in their batting lineup, but unfortunately, the youth isn’t so strong to elevate their ratings. Overall, Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, and Bairstow make the batting stronger. But the likes of Prabsimran Singh and Atharva Taide aren’t the most reliable options.

Gujarat Titans

At number 9, we have the Gujarat Titans team with the batting lineup rating of 8.321. The GT team will be without Hardik Pandya for IPL 2024. This is a bummer already as it reduces their rating from 8.750 to 8.321. But it’s a fact, and GT will have to accept it. GT will once again need the likes of Saha, Sudharsan, Williamson, Shahrukh Khan, and Rahul Tewatia to play beyond their weights to have a successful IPL 2024.

Shubman Gill (c), Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Sai Sudarsan, Kane Williamson, David Miller, Shahrukh Khan & Rahul Tewatia

Delhi Capitals

Coming to number 8, we have the Delhi Capitals team with the batting lineup rating of 8.393. Delhi have a strong top 5 with batters like Warner, Pant, and Marsh in it. But their concern is Prithvi Shaw’s form and the inexperience of Kumar Khushagra. If these two perform above their weights, DC can go a long way in IPL 2024.

Sunrisers Hyderabad 

Sunrisers Hyderabad take the number 7 position with the batting lineup rating of 8.464. SRH does have some really good names in their lineup. The likes of Travis Head, Aiden Markram, and Heinrich Klaasen are all strong options for any batting lineup. But when it comes to other players like Shahbaz Ahmed and Washington Sundar, the names don’t inspire much confidence when it comes to their batting. Hence, SRH lose some rating points in that.

Travis Head, Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Shahbaz Ahmed & Washington Sundar

Kolkata Knight Riders

Coming to number 6, we have the Kolkata Knight Riders team with the batting lineup rating of 8.607. KKR have the names required to complete a solid top 7 on paper. But there’s big room for improvement as the likes of Venkatesh Iyer, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Nitish Rana, and KS Bharat aren’t consistent. That’s the reason they lose some rating points. Having said that, 8.607 rating is no less rating by any standards.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell & KS Bharat

Rajasthan Royals

At number 5, we have the Rajasthan Royals team with the batting lineup rating of 8.607. RR have a similar rating as that of KKR. Overall, the team has a solid top 4 with the likes of Yashasvi, Buttler, Sanju, and Hetmyer. But when it comes to the bottom 3, there’s a gap there. While Dhruv and Riyan are inexperienced, Rovman hasn’t had success as yet in the IPL.

Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (c&wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Rovman Powell & Riyan Parag

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Talking about number 4, we have the Royal Challengers Bangalore team with a batting lineup rating of 8.643 for IPL 2024. RCB does have some really amazing batters in the form of Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Cameron Green, and Glenn Maxwell. But the other batters including Mahipal Lomror, Rajat Patidar, and Dinesh Karthik kind of pull their batting a bit. Nevertheless, what RCB need is two of these four to have a good night on the D-Day.

Mumbai Indians

Coming to the top 3, we have the Mumbai Indians team at number 3 with the batting lineup rating of 8.750 for IPL 2024. MI have a solid top 6, and there are no second thoughts when it comes to player quality. Be it Rohit and Kishan at the top, or Suryakumar Yadav or Hardik Pandya in the middle-order there’s quality everywhere. But it is the likes of Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera that relatively reduce their rating. But if these two can continue the good form, MI can go a long way.

Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (c), Tim David & Nehal Wadhera

Lucknow Super Giants

At number 2, we have the Lucknow Super Giants team with a batting lineup rating of 8.821. The addition of Devdutt Padikkal has solved the missing puzzle that LSG were looking for in the last two editions. They can now proudly say they have one of the best batting lineups in the competition. All LSG now need is their player to perform to their potential. With the likes of QDK, KL, Pooran, Stoinis, etc., there’s enough firepower to look at.

Quinton de Kock (wk), Devdutt Padikkal, Deepak Hooda, KL Rahul (c), Nicholas Pooran, Marcus Stoinis & Krunal Pandya

Chennai Super Kings 

At numero uno, we have the Chennai Super Kings with the batting lineup rating of 8.964 for IPL 2024. CSK will once again go into IPL 2024 as one of the strongest teams in the competition. While CSK have mostly been a bowling-centric team, their batting is equally potent with the right mix of aggression and stability. Right from Ruturaj and Conway at the top to Jaddu and MS as finishers, there are many reliable options in the team to explore.
