India vs England 2025 Official Test Series Squad Players List

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, the leaders in our India vs England 2025 Test series official squad and players list for the Indian team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on May 24 officially announced the squad for Team India for the Test series vs England. In what will be called as a transitioning shift in the Indian team, the WTC 2025-27 cycle with a 5-match England series marks a fresh beginning of the Indian Test Team with Gen Bold taking over the leadership. While Shubman Gill will Captain the Indian team, Rishabh Pant has been named as the Vice Captain.

The selected 18-member team will be without 4 veteran players, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Shami. While Rohit, Virat, and Ashwin have already announced their retirement, the deteriorating form of Mohammed Shami after the injury meant, he was dropped from the squad. The series will see a transitioning shift as the Gen Bold takes over without these veteran cricketers.

In terms of the squad composition for the most difficult series of this WTC cycle, the Indian Cricket Team will have a total of 18 players. This includes 6 pure batters, 2 wicket-keepers, 3 all-rounders, 1 primary spinner, and 6 pacers in the squad. The 18-member squad will see many new faces from the Australia series like Arshdeep Singh, Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, and Prasidh Krishna.

India vs England 2025 Test Squad Detailed Analysis

From the batting perspective, India have technically picked three openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and KL Rahul. Whereas for the middle-order, India will depend on Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Karun Nair. In terms of wicket-keepers, India are going ahead with the tried and tested combination of Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant. Overall, barring KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, the batting lacks experience.

For the all-rounders, India have selected three players, and those are Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar. Nitish Reddy remains the only fast-bowling all-rounder in the side with Shardul Thakur also giving potential batting options. Whereas Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar are the two spin-bowling all-rounders in the side. In terms of an additional spinner, Kuldeep Yadav is given that opportunity.

Coming to pace bowling, India have made a big decision of dropping Mohammed Shami, who has looked like an ordinary bowler since his return from the injury. With Shami not there, India have decided to go ahead with Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, and Arshdeep Singh. It looks a like potent bowling attack with different skill sets from different bowlers on the table.
