While India will be playing their first match of the Super 4, Pakistan have already started their Super 4 campaign with a big win over Bangladesh.

The last encounter between India vs Pakistan ended on a disappointing note due to Rain. India played the whole 50 overs while batting first against a strong bowling lineup of Pakistan. Whereas Pakistan couldn’t get to bat even a single over due to rain as both teams shared a point each.

Team India will be playing their third match of Asia Cup 2023, but for the third consecutive time, there will be a few changes in their playing 11. While the first two matches, India were playing without KL Rahul, the second match saw Team India playing without Jasprit Bumrah. While Kishan played in KL’s absence, Shami played in Bumrah’s absence.

However, KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah, both will be available for Sunday’s clash vs Pakistan. So, what strategy will Team India adopt as they select their playing 11 for their important clash against Pakistan? Well, of the two, Bumrah will definitely replace Mohammed Shami for the clash as Shami only played because Bumrah wasn’t available.

Whereas in the absence of KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan played a mature knock that created a huge impact in the middle overs. But Kishan got an opportunity to play only because KL Rahul was yet to recover. But with KL Rahul back, India should stick to their primary first-choice playing 11 where Shreyas Iyer plays at 4 and KL Rahul plays at 5.

Other than this change, India may go against playing Mohammed Shami in place of Shardul Thakur. Shardul provides crucial 4-5 overs in the middle overs, and gives an important batting deoth. So, expect Team India to continue playing Shardul at 8 with Shami missing out from the playing 11.  

Meanwhile, Team India would need key contributions from their top-order, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli, who had a failed outing against Pakistan last time. Their main fear is playing the first 5-6 overs against Naseem and Afridi. Once they overcome this, there is no looking back.

Talking about Pakistan’s playing 11 against India, the main question would be whether they persist in playing a fourth pacer and all-rounder Faheem Ashraf, or they get in either Mohammad Nawaz or Usama Mir as an additional spin option. 

Faheem did a good job in their last outing vs Bangladesh. So, there is no reason why he should be replaced; unless the pitch favours spin bowling the most, and Pakistan have no other option but to play Nawaz or Mir. But for now, expect Pakistan to play Faheem as their number 8.

Overall, the match is gonna be quite interesting for both the teams. A win for Pakistan would almost confirm their place in the final as it would take them to 4 points from 2 games already.
