Asia Cup 2023: Official Squad List for All 6 Teams

India vs Pakistan in focus as we look at the final updated squad and players list of all 6 teams for Asia Cup 2023.

Just a day to go for the 16th edition of the Asia Cup, the Asia Cup 2023, and we finally have the official squad for all six teams. While Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan had already announced their official squad, the Sri Lankan cricket board only announced the squad yesterday, afternoon.

Except for Sri Lanka, who have selected only a 15-member squad, the other five teams have selected a 17-member squad. Overall, we should see a total of 100 players participating in the tournament, except for travelling reserves. Of the 100 players, we have 29 batters, 11 wicket-keepers, 26 all-rounders, and 34 bowlers. 

The Asia Cup 2023 begins on August 30 with Pakistan taking on Nepal. Overall, between the six teams, there are 6 Group Stage matches, 6 Super Four matches, and 1 Final. The tournament shall be partly conducted in Pakistan and Sri Lanka with the final to be played in Sri Lanka on September 17. 

Alright then, with the squad for all six teams officially announced, it is time for us to review all squads in four different categories, viz., Batters, Wicket-keepers, All-rounders, and Bowlers. So, let’s look at the official squad and complete players list for all six teams for Asia Cup 2023. 

#1: Afghanistan

The Afghanistan team shall be led by Hasmatullah Shahidi. The Shahidi-led team will have a total of 17 players in the squad including 4 batters, 2 wicket-keepers, 6 all-rounders, and 5 bowlers. The key players for Afghanistan include Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rashid Khan, Ibrahim Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, and Mujeeh Ur Rahman.

The Bangladesh Cricket team shall have Shakib Al Hasan as their Captain in the absence of the injured Tamim Iqbal. Of the 17 players in the Bangladesh squad, there are 4 batters, 2 wicket-keepers, 5 all-rounders, and 6 bowlers. For Bangladesh, key players include Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, and Mustafizur Rahman.

The Indian Cricket team will see Rohit Sharma as the Captain, who also led India in Asia Cup 2022 and Asia Cup 2018. The 17-member squad consists of 6 batters, 2 wicket-keepers, 3 all-rounders, and 7 bowlers. For India to sail through, a lot will depend on Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja.

#4: Nepal

The final sixth team of the competition that qualified through Qualifiers, the Nepal team shall be led by Rohit Paudel. The 17-member squad has 4 batters, 2 wicket-keepers, 5 all-rounders, and 6 bowlers. For Nepal to sail though, a lot will depend on their key players, Rohit Paudel, Kushal Bhurtel, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Arjun Saud.

#5: Pakistan

The Number 1 ranked ODI team in the world ahead of Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan will be led by Charismatic Babar Azam. The 17-member squad for Pakistan has 7 batters, 1 wicket-keeper, 5 all-rounders, and 4 bowlers. For Pakistan, Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Imam Ul-Haq, Shadab Khan, and Shaheen Afridi are key players.

Finally, coming to Sri Lanka, who announced their official squad only yesterday has a total of 15 players in the squad, which will be led by Dasun Shanaka. Sri Lanka have a lot of key players missing including their best player, Wanindu Hasaranga. In their absence, Sri Lanka will have to depend on Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Maheesh Theekshana, and Matheesha Pathirana.
