England vs India 2022: Best Predicted ODI Series Squad for Team India

England vs India 2022: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli expected to return as we look at the best predicted ODI series squad for Team India.

‘One Day Internationals’. Make no mistake, the format matches are so rare these days that one tends to forget what is happening in this world of cricket. Team India, for example, have played only 12 ODIs since the start of 2021. While partly one can blame the back-to-back T20 World Cups, but honestly the format itself seems to be dying a slow death with the Bilateral series not being given priority anymore.

Hopefully, with the next ODI World Cup scheduled in India in 2023, ODIs should be back in fashion later this year after the T20 World Cup 2022. However, when India tours big countries like S.E.N.A, etc., ODIs are still played, but for a few matches. With India’s England tour starting in July, one-off Test match will be followed by a 3-match T20 and ODI series.

The last ODI series that India played against West Indies didn’t feature a full-strength squad. But In all probability, Team India will be playing a full-strength vs England squad unless for any ad-hoc injury like that of KL Rahul. Also, most of the players are already in England, and it makes complete sense for them to continue in ODIs.

So, with that in mind, let’s look at the best predicted 18-members squad that India would select for the 2022 ODI series vs England. The ODI series starts just after the T20I series from June 12th. It would be a good dress rehearsal for Team India as a preparation for the showdown World Cup in India in 2023.

Openers: Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma & Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan, who has been constantly neglected in the T20I series squad should make a comeback in the ODI series squad. In all likelihood, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan should continue opening for Team India with Ishan Kishan being the backup opener in absence of KL Rahul. Apart from these 3 players, at this moment, no other batter seems to be in contention. Ruturaj can be looked at. But for that, India would need to select 1 bowler less.

Middle-order: Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav & Virat Kohli

Coming to the middle-order, India would continue playing their usual strong middle-order players. This includes the likes of Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav. All 4 players have been regular members of the ODI Squad, and with all 4 already present in England, they should make their way into their squad. However, KL Rahul, who has been the first-choice player for the number 5 position will be missed.

All-rounders: Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja & Washington Sundar

Coming to the all-rounders, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will be making a comeback. Both had missed the ODI series vs West Indies, but both are important members of the squad, and their comeback will be welcomed. However, return of Hardik Pandya means Venkatesh Iyer could be left out. Venky could still play if India select a pace all-rounder above spin all-rounder Washington Sundar.

The other two members, Deepak Hooda and Washington Sundar should mostly continue being a part of the squad. Both did decent in the West Indies ODI series, and deserve a place in the squad. There could be a debate on Venkatesh Iyer vs Washington Sundar, but with ODI World Cup 2023 in mind, a spin all-rounder should be given a preference.

Spinners: Yuzvendra Chahal & Ravi Bishnoi

Coming to leading spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi seems the best available options for Team India. Also, with Kuldeep injured, Bishnoi seems the best second spinner. Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal shall continue being the leading spinner for Team India. These two shall get the support from spin bowling all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and W Sundar.

Pacers:  Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna & Shardul Thakur

Talking about the pacers, it wouid be very interesting what combination Team India select. If India select a full-strength squad, which they Ideally should, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami should be the leading pacers of the squad. Supporting them should most-likely be Shardul Thakur, who has often played a role of a third pacer.

Talking about the backup pacers, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj did really well in the ODI series vs WI. While Prasidh was the leading wicket-taker, Siraj was the second-highest wicket-taker. With such performance and absence of Deepak Chahar, both deserve another go in the series.

England vs India 2022 – Best Predicted ODI Series Squad for Team India:

Batters: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav & Virat Kohli

Wks: Ishan Kishan & Rishabh Pant

All-rounders: Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja & Washington Sundar

Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ravi Bishnoi, Shardul Thakur & Yuzvendra Chahal

Coach: Rahul Dravid // Captain: Rohit Sharma // Vice-captain: Jasprit Bumrah

So, that completes the best predicted squad for Team India for the 2022 ODI series vs England. Apart from the ones mentioned above, there could be debate over Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravichandran Ashwin, Venkatesh Iyer & Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Meanwhile, here’s the schedule for India vs England 2022 ODI Series:
