India vs England 2024 Test Squad Best List for Both Teams

Rohit Sharma to lead as we look at the strongest Test squad and players list for India vs England 2024. 

A moment in history as India complete their first-ever Test win at Newlands. A stunning comeback from the visitors helped them level the 2-match Test series vs South Africa 1-1. With the Test series now over, the Indian fans and the Indian team are all in readiness for the 5-match home Test series vs England. The home series promises to be a blockbuster affair as we are about to witness the Bazball in the Indian conditions.

But before we get into seeing the Bazball, the focus for the time being will be on what kind of team will India select for the home conditions. Given the conditions in South Africa, India selected only two spinners in the form of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. But with home conditions, we should see a few changes with India adding more spinners in the setup. 

Given India will be playing 5 matches, the BCCI will mostly select a squad for the first two matches, and depending on the players’ availability, shall either continue with the same team, or make the necessary changes. So, with the information available in hand, how about we look for the strongest possible squad that Team India shall deploy for the 2024 Test series vs England? 

Batters – Rohit Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli & Yashasvi Jaiswal

Talking about the batters, India are currently playing Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Abhimanyu Easwaran. Ruturaj, who was ruled out of the Test series having sustained an injury was replaced by Easwaran. But with the Test series almost 3 weeks away, we should mostly see the return of Ruturaj in the squad. If he doesn’t, expect India to select Easwaran for the first two Test matches. 

WKs – Ishan Kishan & KL Rahul

Coming to the wicket-keepers, India once again saw a change in the squad with Ishan Kishan being ruled out of the SA Test series on account of personal issues. However, with a good gap to recover, expect Ishan Kishan to be fit and available for the Test series. So, Ishan Kishan should come in for KS Bharat, who will unfortunately be left out of the squad. 

All-rounders – Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin & Ravindra Jadeja

Talking about All-rounders, we should straight away see a swap here with Axar Patel coming in for Shardul Thakur. As we know the Indian conditions won’t be ideal for Shardul Thakur to add value, and Axar Patel as a spin all-rounder is almost certain to feature in the playing 11. Aside from Axar, India will once again depend on Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin for a successful series. 

Bowlers – Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj & Mukesh Kumar

Finally, talking about the bowling, we should see a few changes in the squad as compared to the one that played in South Africa. Talking about the confirmed players, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mukesh Kumar should definitely feature as the key bowlers. Aside from these three, there will be a lot of discussion on the selection of Prasidh Krishna and Avesh Khan. But honestly, both Prasidh and Avesh aren’t great options to have in the team.

Moreover, with home conditions in place, Kuldeep Yadav should come in for Avesh Khan without any doubt. The team can also include Washington Sundar in place of Kuldeep Yadav, but move looks unlikely for now. Aside from this change, we should mostly see Mohammed Shami being recovered for the Test series. If that happens, which mostly should, Shami coming in for Prasidh. If not, Prasidh may then continue.

So, that’s about the strongest squad for Team India for the 2024 Test series vs England. Meanwhile, talking about the England squad, they have already announced the official squad. Ben Stokes will lead the side with key players like Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, James Anderson, Mark Wood, Harry Brook already included.
