IPL 2024: All 10 Teams Confirmed Playoffs Qualification Scenario

Rajasthan Royals almost qualify as we look at the best Playoffs qualification scenario for all 10 teams for IPL 2024. 

The IPL 2024 is now moving towards the business end of the tournament with each team having around 4-5 matches left. It has been one of the most competitive tournaments given that not a single team has been eliminated so far. Be it RCB, PBKS, or MI, mathematically, all these teams are also in contention for a playoffs spot.

If we look at the current points table standings, Rajasthan Royals are flying high with 8 wins from just 9 games. They are followed by five teams, who are strangled at 10 points each. While only KKR has played 8 matches, the other teams including CSK, SRH, LSG, and DC have played 9-10 matches. Meanwhile, GT aren’t far behind at 8 points, and PBKS, MI, and RCB are at 6 points each.

With more than 45 matches already being played, no team has been eliminated so far from the tournament. This is a great sight as a fan and viewer, but from the teams’ perspective, what do they need to qualify for the IPL 2024 Playoffs? Well, let’s analyze the pending fixtures, and look at the IPL 2024 playoffs qualification scenario for all 10 teams. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad

M: 9 // PTS: 10 // NRR: +0.075

Next matches: RR (H), MI (A), LSG (H), GT (H) & PBKS (H)

Back-to-back losses for Sunrisers Hyderabad make things very interesting for them. They were flying high with 5 wins from 7 games, but two losses kind of halt their progress temporarily. However, even as SRH suffered a few losses, they are still in the best position to qualify for the Playoffs. Of their 5 remaining matches, they play at home 4 times. Thankfully, the teams they face at home aren’t that strong, and even if they win 3 of their remaining 4 matches, they are safe to qualify for the Playoffs. Overall, expect SRH to win against LSG, GT, and PBKS at home to finish on 16 points.

Delhi Capitals

Next matches: RR (H), RCB (A) & LSG (H)

After a bad start to the tournament, Delhi Capitals did find their mojo with successive wins. But a loss against KKR has kind of made their qualification chance now difficult. They currently have 10 points from 11 games, and with 3 more matches to go, they need to win all three with one big margin victory. The only challenge that Delhi Capitals will face is that they will be up against two solid teams in the form of RR and LSG.

Punjab Kings

M: 9 // PTS: 6 // NRR: -0.187

Next matches: CSK (A), CSK (H), RCB (H), RR (A) & SRH (A)

Punjab Kings, as we have seen from history have blown hot and cold in the season so far. They currently have 6 points from 9 games, but all is not lost for them. If they win all their remaining matches, they will end up on 16 points, and that should just be enough. But unfortunately, for them, they will be up against CSK, SRH, and RR away from home. Scenes don’t look good for PBKS, and they might win 2 more matches to end up on 10 points.

Kolkata Knight Riders

M: 9 // PTS: 12 // NRR: +1.096

Next matches: MI (A), LSG (A), MI (H), GT (A) & RR (A)

The addition of Gautam Gambhir at the helm has made Kolkata Knight Riders a dangerous side this season. The team is doing fantastically well, and have 12 points from just 9 games. With 5 more matches to go, KKR need to win 2 for a playoffs spot. Analyzing their fixtures, the matches against GT, and MI may go their way. Expect KKR to win 3 of their remaining 5 matches to end up on 18 points.

Rajasthan Royals

M: 9 // PTS: 16 // NRR: +0.694

Next matches: SRH (A), DC (A), CSK (A), PBKS (H) & KKR (H)

If there is one team that has done exceptionally well, it is the Rajasthan Royals. They have 8 wins from 9 games, and have one leg already inside the Playoffs door. While they are sure to qualify, their next objective shall be sealing the top 2 spots. Seeing their matches, they play PBKS and KKR at home, and SRH, DC, and CSK away from home. While these fixtures aren’t easy with four Playoffs contenders, expect them to win 3 of these 5 matches to finish on 20 points.

Mumbai Indians

Next matches: LSG (A), KKR (H), SRH (H), KKR (A) & LSG (H)

One of the strongest teams on paper, Mumbai Indians are sitting quietly on number 9 in the points table. It’s unimaginable to see Mumbai Indians do this badly even after seeing their team composition. Nevertheless, MI have only 5 matches left, and to have a shot at the Playoffs, they need to win all 5 matches. Seeing their fixtures, if there is one team that can do it, it is the Mumbai Indians. Overall, expect MI to win 4 of their remaining 5 matches to take them to 14 points.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

M: 10 // PTS: 6 // NRR: -0.415

Next matches: GT (H), PBKS (A), DC (H) & CSK (H) 

Sitting at the bottom of the points table, RCB were running out of race before they registered back-to-back wins. While things are still not that optimistic for RCB as they only have 6 points from 10 games, they are not out of the Playoffs race as yet. Needless to say, RCB need to win all their remaining matches. But this will only take them to 14 points, which may not be enough, and to qualify in such a scenario, they would need many results to go in their favor. Analyzing RCB’s matches, except for CSK and DC, the other two fixtures are manageable. So, expect them to win 2 of their remaining 4 matches to finish on 10 points.

Lucknow Super Giants

M: 9 // PTS: 10 // NRR: +0.059

Next matches: MI (H), KKR (H), SRH (A), DC (A), MI (A) 

Lucknow Super Giants have maintained the consistency at which they have been playing the IPL. They entered the Playoffs of IPL 2022 and IPL 2023, and are currently also in the race for the Playoffs spot in IPL 2024.  LSG currently have 10 points from 9 games, and with 5 more matches to go, they face MI and KKR at home, and SRH, DC, and MI away from home. It won’t be easy for LSG as they face all tough matches. Overall, expect LSG to win 2 of their remaining 5 matches to finish on 14 points.

Chennai Super Kings

M: 9 // PTS: 10 // NRR: +0.810

Next matches: PBKS (H), PBKS (A), GT (A), RR (H) & RCB (A)

Talking about Chennai Super Kings, they haven’t had the best of IPLs as yet, but with 10 points from 9 games, and two home games remaining, CSK look set for another Playoffs spot. The home games against PBKS and RR should not be an issue for them. Even the away games against PBKS, GT, and RCB aren’t the most challenging ones. Overall, expect CSK to win 3 of their remaining 5 fixtures to finish on 16 points with a healthy NRR.

Gujarat Titans

M: 10 // PTS: 8 // NRR: -1.113

Next matches: RCB (A), CSK (H), KKR (H) & SRH (A)

The Gujarat Titans team haven’t had the success this year as they have been having in the last two years. They are currently sitting on 8 points from 10 games, and with only 4 more matches left, things look gloomy for them. If they all their remaining 4 matches, they will end with 16 points. But even that may not be enough considering their horrible NRR. Overall, expect GT to win 1 or max 2 of their remaining 4 matches to end up on 12 points.

So, that’s about the best qualification scenario for all 10 teams for IPL 2024 Playoffs. Overall, RR and KKR are almost confirmed for a spot in the Playoffs. While CSK may end up at 3, SRH may just inch Delhi Capitals to finish in 4th position. Whereas DC, MI, and LSG may not be far behind in terms of their overall points.
