IPL 2024 RCB Playing 11 Based on Retained Players

Cameron Green traded in as we look at IPL 2024 RCB Retained Players strongest playing 11 for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

If there’s one thing that has been constant for RCB since its inception, of course, other than Virat Kohli, it is the phrase, ‘Ee sala cup Namde’. 16 years and counting, but the slogan remains a constant for the entire RCB fans. But will things change for them in the 17th year? Well, looking at the released players for RCB, it still looks dicey for them.

The RCB team has retained a total of 19 players for IPL 2024. While this looks good from the outset, if we deep dive, the team is devoid of a good bowling attack having released the likes of Josh Hazlewood, David Willey, Harshal Patel, and Wanindu Hasaranga. With these many good releases, RCB currently have only Mohammed Siraj as the most experienced bowler in the side.

But as has always been the case for RCB, it is their batting that has been the center stage. With the likes of Faf du Plessis, Maxwell, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik, and Rajat Patidar already present, RCB have added another firepower in the form of Cameron Green. This is a big boost to the RCB batting lineup which is already filled with superstars.

Overall, the retained 19 players has 4 batters, 2 wicket-keepers, 6 all-rounders, and 7 bowling options. Of the 19 players, 6 are overseas players. So, with just a few days to go for the Auction, let’s revisit the official retained players list for Royal Challengers Bangalore, and find out the IPL 2024 RCB retained players strongest playing 11.

IPL 2024 RCB Retained Players Strongest Playing 11

Top-order: Faf du Plessis (c), Cameron Green & Virat Kohli

Starting with the top order, RCB have a new addition in the form of explosive Cameron Green. With Green there, Virat Kohli doesn’t have to necessarily open the innings. He can safely come to bat at the number 3 position, and explosive Green can open with calm and composed Faf. However, there could also be a case where we continue seeing Faf and Virat as openers with Green following them at 3.

Middle-order: Rajat Patidar & Glenn Maxwell

The middle-order should see the return of Rajat Patidar, who missed the 2023 IPL due to injury. With Rajat at 4 and Glenn Maxwell at 5, RCB have a formidable batting lineup. Rajat was an integral part of the RCB lineup in 2022, and his return definitely boosts RCB’s chances. Whereas Maxwell, who generally plays at 4 for RCB will have to donn a new role at number 5, which he usually does for Australia.

Finishers: Dinesh Karthik (wk) & Suyash Prabhudessai

Coming to the finishers, this is where RCB are currently lacking a bit. With the release of Shahbaz, RCB doesn’t have a solid name in place to play as a finisher. Parking the impact player rule for the time being, RCB have three options to support Dinesh Karthik; those are Suyash Prabudessai, Mahipal Lomror, and Mayank Dagar. Of the three, Suyash remains the best bet to play at 7 for RCB.

Bowlers: Reece Topley, Karn Sharma, Vyshak Vijaykumar & Mohammed Siraj

Finally, talking about the bowling, this is an area where RCB are missing all their big guns. The team released the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel, and Wanindu Hasaranga. With these three missing, RCB’s current frontline bowlers are Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley, Vyshak Vikaykumar, and wrist spinner Karn Sharma. Supporting them shall be Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, and an impact player.

Of the four bowlers, Mohammed Siraj remains the only confirmed bowler in the lineup. Rest all three can be replaced if RCB are able to get those in the Auction. With only 23 Cr available, getting a good Indian bowler could be difficult for RCB. Hence, their best bet shall be getting someone like Mitchell Starc, Dilshan Madhushanka, or Gerald Coetzee. In addition, RCB need a good Indian wrist spinner, but again, options are less in that.

So, that’s about the strongest IPL 2024 RCB Retained Players playing 11. Overall, RCB are pretty much sorted with their batting. It is only their bowling where are currently struggling. With INR 23 Cr the kitty, their major focus should be on getting two strong bowlers – one Indian and one overseas bowler.
