T20 World Cup 2022: Predicted Playing 11 for India – No Bumrah

When the official squad for Team India for Asia Cup 2022 was announced, two key pacers in the form of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were missing. Both had sustained injuries and were ruled out for the duration of the tournament. Their absence didn’t go well for Team India as they were knocked out from the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2022. 

Since then, both Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel recovered. They were added to the T20 Squad for Australia and South Africa home series. But just when we were sure of both these pacers playing together for T20 World Cup 2022, India have lost Jasprit Bumrah for the Marquee event. This would be another big setback for India, who are already without Ravindra Jadeja. 

Nevertheless, with Jasprit Bumrah already ruled out, let’s look at the predicted playing 11 for Team India without Jasprit Bumrah for T20 World Cup 2022. Meanwhile, as per the leading cricket website, Betway, Australia and India are the favourites to win the tournament with odds at 4.0 and 4.3 respectively.

The selection of the best predicted playing 11 for Team India for T20 World Cup 2022 would solely be about the dilemma of two choices that they will have to make. One is the selection between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik for the wicket-keeper position. Second is the selection of three pacers in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. 

The choice between Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant would be an interesting one. As of October 1, 2022, Dinesh Karthik seems to be the front runner for the wicket-keeper position. Rohit has been time and again preferring Karthik as the finisher. He did play Pant above Karthik in Asia Cup 2022, but Pant hasn’t done well to secure his spot. So, for now, Karthik could play above Pant. 

Coming to the selection of the pacer in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, India have three official squad pacers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshal Patel. Whereas one of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav and Deepak Chahar could be in the final squad.

As the first choice option, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshal Patel seem to be the frontrunner for the final playing 11 for T20 World Cup 2022. In case, Shami replaces Bumrah, and he shows good performance in the upcoming matches, India may think of altering the final 11. In any which case, Arshdeep and Harshal should play as they are our designated death-over bowlers in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. 

Apart from these two choices, the rest of the playing 11 seems pretty settled. We should have Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul at the top. Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav in the middle-order. Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel as all-rounders. Whereas Yuzvendra Chahal shall be the lead spinner of the squad with Ravichandran Ashwin as his backup.

Without Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, India would have a hard time in the World Cup. But that’s the beauty of this team.
