IPL 2023: Ranking All 10 Teams Based on Playoffs Standings

Gujarat Titans expected to finish as toppers as we look at the ranking of all 10 teams based on their playoffs probability for IPL 2023.

The IPL 2023 is currently in its third week, and teams are slowly getting into the groove by getting their playing 11 and team composition right. Even though we have seen only 3-4 matches so far per team, we don’t have a single team who hasn’t lost a single match as yet.

This is great news for the fans as all teams are almost equally balanced with a few hiccups with their strengths and weaknesses. To overcome the weakness, the Impact player rule has somewhat made sure teams have a strong 13-player combination every match with a couple of more backups to be used as and when needed.

Having seen the best 15-16 players’ combination of each team in their first 3-4 matches of IPL 2023, how about we analyze each team based on their team combination, and rank all 10 teams based on their Playoffs chances? Well, it may not be perfect, but definitely, a useful and unbiased analysis to reach the top 4 conclusion and choose which team is better to place your bet on at the bookmaker mostbet.bd.

Methodology:

To find out the ranking of all 10 teams based on their Playoffs chances for IPL 2023,  we will find the cumulative ratings of their best 15 players. Players are relatively rated for their last three IPL and Domestic / International form. Whereas the relative ratings are calculated basis of the benchmark players in the respective categories like Openers, Pacers, Spinners, etc.

Importantly, 15 players are selected keeping their best first-choice playing 11 and additional 4 backups in mind. The Four players can have multiple combinations based on the team’s structure. But in general, we need at least 3 spinners, at least 5 pacers, at least 2 keepers, and a total of 5 overseas players in their squad. That’s how we will be able to select the combination of the best 15 players per team.

Alright then, let’s look at the ranking of all 10 teams based on their Playoffs chances for IPL 2023.

#10: Mumbai Indians –  7.772

First-choice Playing 11 for MI: Ishan Kishan [wk], Rohit Sharma [c], Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Jofra Archer, Piyush Chawla, Kumar Kartikeya, Jason Behrendorff & Mohd. Arshad Khan.

Additional Backups: Riley Meredith, Hrithik Shokeen, Vishnu Vinod [wk] & Nehal Wadhera

At number 10, we have the Mumbai Indians, and if not the analysis, the points table would describe their performance. The team is filled with youngsters with as many as 6 players in a squad of 15. What’s more, Mumbai Indians’ bowling is their weakest part, and unless they are chasing, MI would have a hard time defending the matches.

#9: Kolkata Knight Riders – 7.868

First-choice Playing 11 for KKR: Rahmanullah Gurbaz [wk], Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana [c], Rinku Singh, N Jagadeesan, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Shardul Thakur, Lockie Ferguson, Umesh Yadav & Varun Chakravarthy.

Additional Backups: Tim Southee, Suyash Sharma, Mandeep Singh & Anukul Roy

Similar to MI, Kolkata Knight Riders are filled with youngsters including their captain Nitish Rana. Andre Russell remains their best player, but he isn’t bowling due to the Impact player rule, and he comes to bat at 6 or below. While KKR have won two matches due to some brilliance heroics, they are far from competent as compared to the other teams. However, they do have a potent bowling lineup that can help them stay afloat in the tournament.

#8: Delhi Capitals – 8.025

First-choice Playing 11 for DC: David Warner [c], Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Abhishek Porel [wk], Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Anrich Nortje & Khaleel Ahmed.

Additional Backups: Mustafizur Rahman, Manish Pandey, Chetan Sakariya & Yash Dhull

Number 8 sees Delhi Capitals, and the points table is a reflection of their performance. The void of Rishabh Pant seems to much for Delhi to fill in three departments including captaincy. While Delhi does have a good bowing lineup, it is the misfiring Prithvi Shaw and middle-order that is a cause of worry for them.

#7: Punjab Kings – 8.036

First-choice Playing 11 for PBKS: Shikhar Dhawan [c], Prabsimran Singh, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma [wk], Shahrukh Khan, Rishi Dhawan, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar & Arshdeep Singh.

Additional Backups: Sikandar Raza, Harpreet Brar, Atharva Taide & Mohit Rathee

At number 7, we have Punjab Kings, who have a potent squad, but lack at two places. The team isn’t too strong in the middle-order, and their backups aren’t too strong either. However, their rating of 8.036 isn’t bad, and it is just a matter of a few matches going their way. The return of Kagiso Rababda and Liam Livingstone should boost the team’s confidence in the upcoming matches.

#6: Chennai Super Kings – 8.179

First-choice Playing 11 for CSK:  Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Ben Stokes, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni [c&wk], Shivam Dube, Deepak Chahar, M Theekshana & Tushar Deshpande.

Additional Backups: Ajinkya Rahane, Rajvardan Hangargekar, Subhranshu Senapati & Dwaine Pretorius

Seeing Chennai Super Kings at 6 can surprise you, but honestly, it is the pace bowling that is a big letdown for CSK. Deepak Chahar is their key bowler, and he is currently ruled out due to injury. There’s too much reliance on inexperienced pacers like Tushar, Hangargekar, and Magala. Unless CSK do well with their spinners at home, they would find it difficult to enter the Playoffs.

#5: Sunrisers Hyderabad – 8.240

First-choice Playing 11 for SRH: Harry Brook, Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram [c], Heinrich Klaasen [wk], Abdul Samad, Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan & Umran Malik.

Additional Backups: Abhishek Sharma, Glenn Phillips [wk], Mayank Markande & Kartik Tyagi

Number 5 sees Sunrisers Hyderabad, and they do have a good squad including backups. In fact, they are one of the only two teams alongside GT to have good backup players. However, having said that what they are lacking is IPL experience. All their overseas players have only played a few IPL seasons. So, even though they have potential, the team would need enough confidence to sail through.

#4: Lucknow Super Giants – 8.301

First-choice Playing 11 for LSG: KL Rahul [c], Quinton de Kock [wk], Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, Nicholas Pooran, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, Mark Wood, Amit Mishra & Avesh Khan.

Additional Backups: Mohsin Khan, Krishnappa Gowtham, Kyle Mayers & Manan Vohra

Lucknow Super Giants have a strong playing 11 in place, and the presence of Impact players only makes it strong. LSG have all the capabilities to finish in the top 4. They have some supreme firepower in their batting and bowling. If KL Rahul recovers his form and Mohsin recovers from injury soon, they would be the team to beat in the tournament.

#3: Rajasthan Royals – 8.317

First-choice Playing 11 for RR: Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson [c&wk], Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Jason Holder, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Kuldeep Sen & Yuzvendra Chahal.

Additional Backups: Obed McCoy, Murugan Ashwin, Sandeep Sharma & Dhruv Jurel

Number 3 sees Rajasthan Royals, and they are the only team to have a stable first-choice playing 11. Hardly we would see them changing their playing 11. What’s more, they have good backups that can help them to rely on whenever required. With the kind of form, Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal are in, expect them to finish in the top 4 again.

#2: Royal Challengers Bangalore – 8.329

First-choice Playing 11 for RCB: Faf du Plessis [c], Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik [wk], Shahbaz Ahmed, Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj & Karn Sharma.

Additional Backups: Michael Bracewell, Akash Deep, Anuj Rawat & Suyash Prabhudessai

At number 2, we have the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and this shouldn’t be a surprise. They have one of the strongest playing 11 on paper, and even though RCB may have lost 2 matches, they have fought well till the end. With Josh Hazlewood and Wanindu Hasaranga returning, expect RCB to come back stronger in the upcoming matches.

#1: Gujarat Titans – 8.388

First-choice Playing 11 for GT: Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha [wk], B Sai Sudharsan, Hardik Pandya [c], David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph, Mohammed Shami, Joshua Little & Yash Dayal.

Additional Backups: Matthew Wade, R Sai Kishore, Vijay Shankar & Shivam Mavi

Finally, the best team on paper that is covered in all departments, is the Gujarat Titans. Gujarat may not have an extraordinary team, but they have a solid playing 11 including 4 strong backups. What’s special about GT is that they have a new match winner in almost every match. Under the able leadership of Hardik Pandya and Ashish Nehra, expect GT to finish in the top 2 again.

Conclusion

So, that’s about all 10 teams’ Playoffs chances for IPL 2023. RCB, GT, LSG, and RR do look the best to make it to the Playoffs. But don’t discount the strength of CSK and a surprise element in the form of SRH. Personally, GT, LSG, RCB, and CSK seem the best to be able to qualify for the Playoffs of IPL 2023.
