Team India under Rishabh Pant are going through a torrid time. Two T20Is are already being played, but South Africa with their A+ Level cricket have taken a lead of 2-0 in the 5-match T20 series. The absence of KL Rahul had given a golden opportunity to Ruturaj Gaikwad to make a mark at the International stage. But to our disappointment, Ruturaj has failed to make an impression with failures in both the matches so far. But fortunately, India don’t have a third opener, and that could mean Ruturaj will get more opportunities to make a comeback. Hopefully, he makes use it this opportunity to do well in the 3rd T20I. 

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan has been the best Indian Batter so far with more than 100 runs in the two T20Is so far. After having started slowly in the 1st T20I, Ishan Kishan was back to his original beast with aggressive scoring in the latter half of 1st T20I and the entire innings of 2nd T20I. He Shall continue to lead the batting for Team India in the absence of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. 

Middle-order: Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant & Deepak Hooda

Shreyas Iyer has played good knocks so far in the two T20Is. He has made sure India don’t miss Virat Kohli, who is Team India’s prime contender for the number 3 position. While Iyer has been good, Pant did well in the 1st T20I, but fell to a poor shot in the 2nd T20I. India would need more maturity from their captain given that they would be facing a do-or-die encounter. 

One change which India would do is to strengthen their batting by bringing in Deepak Hooda in place of Axar Patel. With India also struggling in the batting department, Deepak at 5 could be a good option given the form he is in. In addition, Deepak’s part-time off-spin could be useful given that Axar has looked horrendous so far in the two T20Is.

Finishers: Hardik Pandya & Dinesh Karthik

Coming to the finishers, Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik shall be the first-choice players for Team India. While Hardik did well in the 1st T20I, Dinesh Karthik gave glimpses of his finishing skills in the 2nd T20I. DK at 7 could be a good option as he has played a similar role for RCB in IPL 2022. Whereas Hardik can play as a floater with Deepak coming after him. 

Bowlers: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan & Ravi Bishnoi

Coming to the bowling department, pacers have done well in the two T20Is so far. Hence, expect Team India to stick to the same pace bowling combination of Harshal, Bhuvi, and Avesh. But it is Yuzvendra Chahal who has disappointed the most. The Purple Cap holder of IPL 2022 has looked horrendous with spells reading 1/49 and 0/26 in 2 overs.

Chahal’s lack of wicket-taking ability and dominance of South African batters means India could be prompted to play Ravi Bishnoi in the playing 11. Nothing against Chahal as he is a quality bowler, but a change can bring some fortunes to the team.
