IPL 2024: Ranking All 10 Teams Best Overseas Players

Punjab Kings, the standout team as we look at the ranking and rating of the best overseas players for all 10 teams for IPL 2024. 

If we hear terms like Backout or personal reasons in the Indian Premier League, we can without any hesitation say that one of the Overseas players has withdrawn from the tournament. The situation wasn’t prominent for a long time in the IPL, but the last few years have seen a lot of such cases happening frequently, especially with the England players. 

The 2024 IPL will see a few Overseas players either withdraw their name from IPL 2024, or are injured. While injury is something you can’t control, withdrawing from the tournament is completely in your hands. But that’s how it has been, and with Overseas players in abundance supply, they easily get the backups. But even after adding the backups, the quality of Overseas players in each side is supreme for IPL 2024.

So, with only a few days away from kick-starting the Indian Premier League, how about we analyze all 10 Teams basis their Overseas players, and look at their ranking and rating for IPL 2024? To arrive at the ratings, we will take the cumulative rating of all 8 Overseas players. Whereas the players are relatively rated against the benchmark players basis their performance in the last two years in IPL and T20 cricket. 

IPL 2024 Ranking All 10 Teams Best Overseas Players

Mumbai Indians 

We have a bummer straight away with Mumbai Indians taking the number 10 spot when it comes to their overseas players. It is no fact that MI are Indian players-centric team. There is supreme quality when it comes to Indian players, but when we talk of Overseas players, there is no standout name in the team. Tim David, Gerald Coetzee, Dilshan Madhushanka, and Mohammad Nabi are the team’s best Overseas players with the other four players as decent backups.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Number 9 belongs to the RCB team, and once again this shouldn’t come as a surprise. There is no doubt that RCB have three solid Overseas players in the form of Faf du Plessis, Cameron Green, and Glenn Maxwell. But when it comes to other Overseas players, there is either a gap in IPL experience or quality. Most probably, if Reece Topley is fit, he should start as the fourth Overseas player with Lockie Ferguson and Alzarri Joseph as the other choices.

Delhi Capitals

Coming to number 8, we have the Delhi Capitals team with a rating of 8.406. Delhi have four strong Overseas players in the form of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Anrich Nortje, and Harry Brook. If these four were playing, DC had one of the best top 4 Overseas players, but Harry Brook is most-likely ruled-out due to personal reasons, and DC are yet to name a replacement. Other than these four, DC have decent names like Shai Hope, Tristan Stubbs, Jake Mcgurk, and Jhye Richardson.

Lucknow Super Giants

For number 7, we the LSG team with an Overseas players rating of 8.438. LSG will heavily depend on the Overseas trio of Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis, and Nicholas Pooran. Had Mark Wood been there, it would have been perfect for them. But with Mark Wood withdrawing from the tournament, their four Overseas player and the Backups aren’t the most prominent names to rely upon.

Kolkata Knight Riders 

Number 6 belongs to the KKR team with an Overseas players rating of 8.490. Be it rank 10 or rank 6, there is very minimal difference in terms of Overseas player quality. For KKR, Andre Russell, Mitchell Starc, and Sunil Narine shall be the top three Overseas players. But when it comes to their fourth Overseas player, Jason Roy would have been ideal. But with Roy not there, one of Salt or Gurbaz will play. Both are decent options, and the Backups Mujeeb, Chameera, and Rutherford are once again decent options to rely on.

Rajasthan Royals

RR find themselves at the number 5 position with an Overseas players rating of 8.5. RR look much-balanced when it comes to their top 4 Overseas payers. The team will see Jos Buttler, Trent Boult, Shimron Hetmyer, and Rovman Powell as their first-choice Overseas players. While Buttler, Hetmyer, and Boult are solid options, Powell hasn’t had a big impact in IPL as yet. In addition, the backups have three decent options for RR with the likes of Ferreira, Cadmore, and Burger.

Gujarat Titans 

At number 4, we have the GT team with an Overseas players rating of 8.594. As compared to the bottom 6 teams, GT have a more-competent four first-choice Overseas players with Rashid Khan, the benchmark spinner leading the pack. Aside from Rashid, GT have David Miller, Kane Williamson, and Spencer Johnson as their first-choice Overseas players. In terms of backups, GT have two good names in the form of Noor Ahmad and Matthew Wade.

Moving on to the top 3, and we have the SRH team with a rating of 8.750. There’s quality written all over when it comes to SRH’s Overseas players, and this is not even a point of debate. As decent as their Indian players are, SRH have done a fantastic job when it comes to hiring the Overseas talent. There is already a problem of plenty for SRH with quality supply in abundance, and space for only 50% of the Overseas players.

Chennai Super Kings

Coming to the number 2 spot, it belongs to the CSK team with a rating of 8.823. CSK have quality Overseas players in there, and all 8 players can push for a place in the playing 11. In an ideal situation with all players fit and available, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Moeen Ali, and Maheesh Theekshana will form the first-choice Overseas players. But with Conway not available for most part of the tournament, Rachhin Ravindra should mostly take that spot.

Punjab Kings

Numero uno belongs to the PBKS team, and they are one team that is not dependent on a particular Overseas player. You can any permutation of four out of eight players, and you would not find a lack of quality in that. In an ideal scenario, Livingstone, Baorstow, Curran, and Rabada should be their first-choice overseas players. However, the other four, i.e., Rossouw, Woakes, Raza, and Ellis are equally potent in terms of quality.

Overall, Punjab Kings, CSK, and SRH have the best bunch of Overseas players if all players are fit and fine. While the Indian contingent is strong for CSK, the same can’t be said about SRH and Punjab Kings.
