Both the teams did quite opposite when it comes to IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Lucknow Super Giants looked more clear and strategic in their approach, and they managed to get a potent squad that is good in all the areas. But Gujarat Titans’ strategy looked baffling. The team Invested heavily in a few players, but that meant, Team has gaps in a few areas.

For their first match, Gujarat Titans are mostly clear from their overseas players’ point of view. Only Alzarri Joseph isn’t available for the first match. But for Lucknow Super Giants, Marcus Stoinis, Kyle Mayers, and Jason Holder are not available. This could be a huge loss for LSG, who are dependant heavily on their overseas contingent.

IPL 2022 GT vs LSG: Predicted Playing XI for Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans are one of the only few teams that would not be affected by the unavailability of overseas players. All their first-choice overseas players are available. Only Alzarri Joseph isn’t available for the first two matches, but that shouldn’t affect the selection. Overall, their only headache would be to find the right team combination.

With Jason Roy opting out of IPL, the main question that Gujarat Titans would face is who would open alongside Shubman Gill. They currently have two options in the form of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Matthew Wade. Of the two, experienced Matthew Wade seems a potent option. With him there, GT may not need to play Wriddhiman Saha as the keeper.

The second selection doubt would be whether to play Wriddhiman Saha or Vijay Shankar at 3. The answer to this question lies in whether Hardik Pandya bowls or not. If he bowls, Shankar may not be needed as Saha seems a better batter at 3. But if Hardik doesn’t bowl, Shankar would be needed to support for the additional 2-3 overs.

Number 4 and 5 should see David Miller and Hardik Pandya holding the fort. Abhinav Manohar could play the role of finisher as he had also done for the Karnataka team. Whereas Rahul Tewatia shall fulfil the all-rounder finisher duty at number 7. With the lower-order being thin, a lot of responsibility shall lie on the shoulders of David Miller and Hardik Pandya.

Coming to the bowling, Gujarat Titans have three solid bowlers in the form of Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami, and Lockie Ferguson. The fourth bowler could see a competition between Jayant Yadav, Varun Aaron, and Darshan Nalkande. Of the three, Varun Aaron could get a game given Wankhede’s pitch assists pace more.

IPL 2022 GT vs LSG: Predicted Playing XI for Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants face huge section headaches ahead of the first match. Three of their top 3 first-choice overseas players are not available, and that’s a big sign of worry. While Mark Wood has been ruled out due to injury, Jason Holder and Marcus Stoinis are not available for at least 2 matches. In addition, Kyle Mayers isn’t available for the first two matches.

With three options missing, Lucknow Super Giants will have to make some tactical changes to their playing 11. KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock shall continue to play as openers for LSG. With batting slightly thin, Evin Lewis could be roped in at number 3. Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, and Krishnappa Gowtham shall form the rest of the batting line-up.

Coming to the bowling, Andrew Tye and Dushmantha Chameera shall fill in the shoes for Mark Wood and Jason Holder respectively. Supporting these two shall be Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan. The Indian bowling options including Krunal Pandya, K Gowtham, and Deepak Hooda provides for a good balance. However, the team would still need Stoinis and Holder back soon.
