Punjab Kings, the standout as we look at the latest ranking and rating of the best pacers of all 10 teams for IPL 2024.

Year after year, we are seeing the Indian pitches now being prepared in such a fashion that fast bowlers are getting their say in the overall bowling effectiveness. While spinners have always had an upper hand in the overall effectiveness, pitches like Wankhede, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, etc. are making fast bowlers one of the most important members of the squad. 

With fast bowlers now getting their due importance, teams are investing heavily in them; especially the fast bowlers who can bat a bit. We have three big examples in front of us for that. Take Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, or Sam Curran for example. The three are the highest-paid players in the Indian Premier League, and they are primarily fast bowlers who can bat decent.

Come 2024, which of the 10 franchises have the best Pacers lineup for IPL 2024? Well, each team is equipped with at least 4-5 solid pacers in their squad. While teams may have more numbers than this, 5 is a good number for any team to excel in the pace department. So, let’s evaluate the best pacers for each team using our tried and tested methodology, and find out the ranking and rating for IPL 2024.

• Pacers are classified as three good pacers, two good backup pacers, and two decent backup pacers
• All pacers are relatively rated on a scale of 10 against the benchmark pacer, basis their IPL and T20 performance in the last three years

Benchmark Pacer for IPL 2024: Jasprit Bumrah

Lucknow Super Giants

Starting with the number 10, LSG have an exact opposite pace lineup of how strong their batting lineup is. Even as they have one of the strongest batting lineups in the competition, their bowling is below par, and with Mark Wood already out, it looks even more bad. Without Mark Wood, Shamar Joseph, David Willey, and Naveen Ul Haq will be the leading pacers for LSG. Unfortunately, only one will be able to play, and LSG will have to rely on Mohsin Khan, Shivam Mavi, and Yash Thakur for backup options. 

IPL 2024 Pacers Rating for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) – 7.73

Three Best Pacers: Naveen Ul-Haq (o), Shamar Joseph (o) & David Willey (o)

Backup Pacers: Arshin Kulkarni, Kyle Mayers (o), Marcus Stoinis (o), Prerak Mankad, Yudhvir Charak, Arshad Khan, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Shivam Mavi & Yash Thakur

Gujarat Titans

Coming to number 9, it is the Gujarat Titans with a rating of 8.13. GT find themselves in this position only because their best pacer, Mohammed Shami has been ruled out. Without Shami, the pace bowling shall depend on Joshua Little, Mohit Sharma, and Spencer Johnson. Other than these three, GT will see Kartik Tyagi and Umesh Yadav playing a key role in the pace department.

Three Best Pacers: Joshua Little (o), Mohit Sharma & Spencer Johnson (o)

Backup Pacers: Azmatullah Omerzai (o), Shahrukh Khan, Vijay Shankar, Darshan Nalkande, Kartik Tyagi, Mohammed Shami, Sushant Mishra & Umesh Yadav

Rajasthan Royals

Talking about number 8, we have the Rajasthan Royals team with a rating of 8.20. RR’s major worry is who else other than Trent Boult. Boult remains their only T20 specialist, and that too where Pitch has something to offer. The other two good pacers, Avesh Khan and Prasidh Krishna don’t have the game for T20s. Other than these three, Kuldeep Sen, Sandeep Sharma, and Nandre Burger will play a crucial role in IPL 2024. 

IPL 2024 Pacers Rating for Rajasthan Royals (RR) – 8.20

Three Best Pacers: Trent Boult (o), Avesh Khan & Prasidh Krishna

Backup Pacers: Rovman Powell (o), Kuldeep Sen, Nandre Burger (o), Navdeep Saini, Sandeep Sharma

Kolkata Knight Riders

Coming to number 7, we have the Kolkata Knight Riders team with a rating of 8.22. The addition of Mitchell Starc makes KKR’s bowling a tad better. But that’s about it for KKR as the supporting pacers are more or less average or inexperienced with the likes of Andre Russell, Harshit Rana, Dushmantha Chameera, and Vaibhav Arora.

IPL 2024 Pacers Rating for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) – 8.22

Three Best Pacers: Mitchell Starc (o), Andre Russell (o) & Dushmantha Chameera

Backup Pacers: Ramandeep Singh, Sherfane Rutherford (o), Venkatesh Iyer, Chetan Sakariya, Dushmantha Chameera, Harshit Rana, Sakib Hussain & Vaibhav Arora

Royal Challengers Bangalore

For number 6, we have the Royal Challengers Bangalore team with a rating of 8.52. Given how strong RCB’s batting lineup is, their pace bowling is almost the opposite. The team has Mohammed Siraj as their best pacer with the other three overseas pacers, Lockie Ferguson, Reece Topley, and Alzarri Joseph following him. Other than these four, RCB have Akash Deep, Cameron Green, and Vijaykumar Vyshak to rely on. 

IPL 2024 Pacers Rating for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) – 8.52

Three Best Pacers: Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley (o) & Lockie Ferguson (o)

Backup Pacers: Cameron Green (o), Tom Curran (o), Akash Deep, Alzarri Joseph (o), Rajan Kumar, Vyshak Vijaykumar & Yash Dayal

Sunrisers Hyderabad

At number 5, we have the Sunrisers Hyderabad team with a rating of 8.53. SRH does have some really good T20 bowlers in the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Marco Jansen, etc. In addition, the likes of Pat Cummins, Umran Malik, and Fazalhaq Farooqi aren’t too bad either. The only issue with SRH’s pace battery is they don’t have any outstanding pacer as more or less all fall in the same category.

IPL 2024 Pacers Rating for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – 8.53

Three Best Pacers: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Pat Cummins (o) & T Natarajan

Backup Pacers: Nitish Reddy, Sanvir Singh, Akash Singh, Fazalhaq Farooqi (o), Jaydev Unadkat, Marco Jansen (o) & Umran Malik

Chennai Super Kings 

Number 4 belongs to Chennai Super Kings, and they get a rating of 8.66. MS Dhoni and his men never believed in hiring specialists, and It is the team’s strength to get the best out of their players. The pace bowling lineup is also similar as there are no exceptional pacers, but together as a team, they deliver the goods. Come 2024, CSK have Pathirana, Mustafizur, Deepak, Shardul, and Mukesh as their key pacers.  

IPL 2024 Pacers Rating for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – 8.66

Three Best Pacers: Matheesha Pathirana (o), Mustafizur Rahman (o) &  Deepak Chahar

Backup Pacers: Daryl Mitchell (o), Shivam Dube, Mukesh Choudhary, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Shardul Thakur, Simarjeet Singh & Tushar Deshpande

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals find themselves at number 3 position, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise either. Anrich Nortje leads the pace bowling lineup for Delhi Capitals, and he has two solid Indian pacers to support in the form of Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed. It doesn’t stop there as DC have Lungi Ngidi, Ishant Sharma, and Mitchell Marsh as good backups for them.

Three Best Pacers: Anrich Nortje (o), Mukesh Kumar & Khaleel Ahmed

Backup Pacers: Mitchell Marsh (o), Sumit Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Jhye Richardson (o), Lungi Ngidi (o) & Rashik Dar

Mumbai Indians

Jumping to the number 2 position, we have the Mumbai Indians team with a rating of 8.97. This is a solid leading, and mostly it is thanks to the Benchmark pacer, Jasprit Bumrah. While Bumrah leads the pack, he has Hardik Pandya, Dilshan Madhushanka, Jason Behrendorff, Nuwan Thusharan, Romario Shephard, and Gerald Coetzee in a good backup role. 

IPL 2024 Pacers Rating for Mumbai Indians (MI) – 8.97

Three Best Pacers: Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya & Jason Behrendorff (o) 

Backup Pacers: Anshul Kamboj, Arjun Tendulkar, Dilshan Madhushanka (o), Romario Shephard (o), Akash Madhwal, Gerald Coetzee (o) & Nuwan Thushara (o)

Punjab Kings

Finally, at numero uno, we have the Punjab Kings with a rating of 9.27. PBKS boast of solid pace bowlers with the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, Nathan Ellis, and Harshal Patel. Three of the four names will definitely feature in the playing with another pacer Sam Curran joining them. It doesn’t stop there as Punjab Kings then have Chris Woakes, Rishi Dhawan, and Vidhwath Kaperappa in a good backup pacer role.
