Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and the rest of the captains choose a player of their choice to represent their World Cup 2019 squad.
During the traditional captain’s day function, the captains played a fun game. They were asked, “If given a choice, which player would you choose to represent your World Cup 2019 squad”?
The ever-sportive captains gave us some interesting answers, and left it up to our imagination to visualize their choices.
Who do you think Virat chose for the Indian team or Eoin Morgan chose for the England team? We have briefly articulated the choices session for you guys.
Virat Kohli‘s first choice was AB de Villiers, but since the batsman has retired, Virat Kohli chose Faf du Plessis to represent the Indian team in World Cup 2019.
He feels Faf is very similar to him, in the way he approaches his game. Virat also admires the way Faf leads from the front, and appreciated his immense understanding of the spot.
It is very difficult to choose someone. We feel, we are such a strong side. But, if I have to choose one from the current lot, since AB (de Villiers) is retired now, I would choose Faf (du Plessis)- Virat Kohli
Mashrafe Mortaza, when asked simply pointed his hand at Virat Kohli and said: “I would choose that guy”.
His choice won’t be doubted by many as Virat has been in a league of his own when it comes to batting in limited over internationals
Faf Du Plessis returned the favor as he picked Virat in his batting side while choosing Jasprit Bumrah, Rashid Khan and Pat Cummins for his bowling arsenal.
Faf’s choices are very righteous as on flat wickets in England, the team with the best bowling side would have the upper hand, any day of the tournament.
Kane Williamson agreed with Faf regarding the bowling attack and chose Rashid Khan to represent the Kiwis.
Eoin Morgan though had different plans as he wanted Ricky Ponting to be a part of England’s coaching staff. Nevertheless, Morgan was clear of not making a change in the England squad.
Sarfaraz Khan picked the swashbuckling Jos Buttler for his squad.
Aaron Finch chose fiery pacer Kagiso Rabada citing the speedster to be a superstar, and also appreciated the amazing energy Rabada possesses.
Dimuth Karunaratne went for the English all-rounder, Ben Stokes. The Sri Lankan captain feels Stokes is a game-changer and everyone knows what he is capable of.
Jason Holder, on the other hand, seems happy with his own squad and he didn’t make any choice.
Gulbadin Naib too gave a plain answer stating the choice of players will depend on the day and conditions.
Lots of interesting replies from the captains as they choose the player of their choice for World Cup 2019.
It would have been interesting to see Faf in a blue jersey, Rabada in the golden yellow and many more. But, that can only happen in the tournament like ’50 overs IPL’.
