CWC 2023: India vs New Zealand Best Semi-final Playing 11
Rohit Sharma and Kane Williamson in focus as we look at India vs New Zealand confirmed playing 11 for the Semi-final clash at World Cup (CWC) 2023.
For the second consecutive ODI World Cup, India would be facing New Zealand in a semi-final clash. The 2019 Semi-final didn’t go in India’s favor as they couldn’t chase in a low-scoring contest. But the stakes are different this time as New Zealand are up against a high-flying Indian team, which also has an added home advantage.
Even as India are currently brimming with confidence with an unbeaten 9-match streak, they can’t take things lightly against New Zealand, who can turn up strong in Knockouts. Also, this goes without saying that Knockouts have completely different pressure as compared to Group stage matches. So, the team that turns up well on that day will eventually come out as the winner.
The Wankhede pitch where the semi-final match shall be played generally offers a high-scoring contest. The team winning the toss will definitely look to bat first. This is also in sync with playing in Knockouts where teams look to avoid chasing pressure. Meanwhile, while chasing, first overs shall be crucial where the ball will swing a lot.
When it comes to the squad, India shall be without their best all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who has been ruled out of the World Cup due to an ankle strain. Whereas for New Zealand, Captain Kane Williamson is back, but their best pacer Matt Henry has been ruled out. So, with just a day to go for the biggest clash of the season as yet, let’s look at the official squad and confirmed playing 11 for India vs New Zealand Semi-final clash at the ODI World Cup 2023.

Team India’s Playing 11
Team India have been playing the same playing 11 since they made a wholesome change against the same opposition in Dharamsala. India were without their best all-rounder, Hardik Pandya for their match vs New Zealand in Dharamsala. To fill the void, India did two changes. They brought in Mohammed Shami to fill the bowling void, and Suryakumar Yadav to fill the batting void.
Having been winning with the same playing 11 since then even though there is a lack of batting depth, expect India to continue playing the same playing 11 for the Semi-final. The only time India would have thought of making a change was if they were playing on a rank-turner like Chennai. But with Wankhede assisting pace, expect India to play the 3 frontline pacers.
Overall, all eyes will be on the top-order of Team India. The last time India played a semi-final against New Zealand, they were restricted to 5/3 inside the powerplay. India would not want to repeat the same situation. The best possible way to avoid that would be to bat first. But in case India chase, the first 6 overs shall become extremely crucial.
If need be, India would also need their finisher Suryakumar Yadav to come good. SKY hasn’t quite flourished yet in the World Cup. But with the kind of ability SKY has, he can take on any opposition single-handedly. Similarly, India would need Shubman Gill to bring his A game in the Knockouts. Just a reminder, Gill is yet to hit a century in this World Cup, so could this be the night?
