MATCH SUMMARY:
World Cup 2019, India vs West Indies: Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, and bowlers shine as India deliver their biggest victory against West Indies at World Cups.
Not for the first have West Indies succumbed to a run chase. They have done it on many occasions now in this World Cup, and it is only disappointing to see such immature performance from a team full of talented players.
While one would say that India were fantastic with their bowling, it is more often coming down to West Indies players’ mindset when they plan their run chase for a 50 overs game. No batsman looks to take the game deeper, no batsman looks to play a longer knock, and every batsman just looks vulnerable on the pitch.
Meanwhile, Team India had its own issues too. Rohit Sharma failed for the second consecutive time, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli got starts, but couldn’t build on it, while Vijay Shankar and Kedar Jadhav looked good, but threw it away.
Thanks to MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya’s cameos in the end that lifted India from 180-5 after 38.2 to 268-7 in 50 overs.
THE CHASE
Defending 268, India were once again exceptional with their bowling. Came in as a replacement for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami has brought a spark in the bowling unit for India. He is providing the much-needed support to Jasprit Bumrah and key wickets upfront and at the death.
The spinning pair of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav too performed brilliantly as they spun the spin web in the middle-overs that tilted the game completely in India’s favor.
For West Indies, no batsman looked to play a longer knock as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
In the end, a sensational bowling performance from India left West Indies paralyzed as they won the match by 125 runs; their biggest win in terms of runs against West Indies at World Cups.
West Indies, meanwhile, are out of the tournament. They need to deep-dive into their batting performance to understand the faulty approach in their batting.
WHAT WENT WRONG FOR WEST INDIES?
- The mindset to bat 50 overs is just isn’t there for West Indies.
- The dropped catches in the field, and Shai Hope’s poor missed stumping.
CRUCIAL MOMENTS
- Rohit Sharma’s controversial caught behind overturned by DRS.
- MS Dhoni’s missed stumping by Shai Hope in the 34th over.
- MS Dhoni’s stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Carlos Brathwaite.
